this really is a bad time to pay any serious money for a byakko kill, even if you can't get the people to do it at lvl 80, the fee will be a lot cheaper when 4-5 mediocre players can take him out

in the BG article i keep reading how pld/war is old hat. well, in the LS i am in, pld/war is still used for dynamis and einherjar, pld/nin alot in most other instances. so why is pld/war lol anymore in dynamis? what is the new pld/war these days?

edit: funny that this question got a score down. seriously? I don't know everything or claim to know everything. So glad there are others out there that do know it all. -2 as of this edit, let's see if it goes down even further...

If you insist on using PLDs elsewhere, /RDM has far superior hate tools and strong damage mitigation via Phalanx. That's assuming you're using it to assist with holding slept mobs... if you're actually tanking engaged fodder in cities (or at least trying to) I don't know what to tell you.

PLD/BLM is alright for Einherjar from what I've heard.

Ignore the ratings, ***doesn't matter and it hardly ever gets used to any productive end anyway.

This must be a alex thing since every ls i've been in has used me or another pld as the /assist where we were supposed to voke the mob before the dds cut loose and then quickly move on to the next not tanking per se but more a "first voke" like a war in meripos. That being said this is only true for citys.

It is interesting to see how other servers have adapted though.

Ya, X and I were talking about this last night and every shell i have been in is the same way. First voke, give everyone a target to wail on and move to next. But i guess the same thing can be done with pld/rdm and just have a /assist when the pld flashes or gravities, or w/e the mob and then everyone wails on it just the same. even if there are other options, doesn't mean there is anything wrong with doing it this way and it works just fine all the years i have been doing it. as far as the rate downs, i know they mean nothing irl but to rate down a simple question blows me away and i will always call ppl out that deserve to be. probably should quit posting, since this thread is pretty dead cause OP found his merc, lol. Laters.

PLD in dynamis is just to keep hate on the slept mobs so that when they wake up they don't beat the crap out of the mages, some LSes use it, some don't.

It will remain that way until this game dies so there's little point arguing over it.

We use a PLD/RDM in Dynamis and Einherjar to hold slept mobs while DDs pick them off one by one.

It's not that necessary, but it's a job people enjoy doing (myself included), and it lets the sleepers be a little slack, or focus on other things without worrying about mobs waking up and coming for them.

As for calling, people have used PLD/WAR for a long time, they're probably just used to it. We tend to use a WAR (Or NIN in Dynamis if anyone feels like being on NIN), since they accomplish the same task while dishing out a lot more damage.

PLD/WAR is honestly pretty horrible for anything endgame. If you're straight-tanking anything that needs a dedicated tank, normally PLD/NIN is going to be more effective, and if shadows are completely pointless you get much more damage mitigation AND hate tools out of /RDM.

That's the same reason /RDM, /BLM, or /DRK beats /WAR in a crowd control situation, you have a lot more spells to spam to keep hate on multiple mobs.

I would like to try PLD/RDM in dynamis cause it definately would hold hate better and take less damage.

But if we keep it PLD/WAR then I won't complain either
