FFXI dats.com is closing down :(
If i put up a site that you guys can upload these dats to and it would actually host them and not require the use of a file host would you use it? If you will by the end of the week I will have a site up the running.
That sounds great Icari. I would definitely do my best to upload what I have available and can get my hands on. However the most difficult part is getting the community back together and sharing on one universally accepted site.

I put up ffxidats.caarrie.org please start to upload your "found" dats there, if you run into problems pm me here or there. If you have suggestions post them on the forum in the correct board for consideration. I am teaming up with Zerio to try to keep this site clean of viruses and such. Spread the word about this site and help fill it with any dats you find on the various forums. Please do not link to dats hosted on temp hosting sites please host them on my site per the directions posted.

I'll send him a message on PSN, but I wouldn't expect much. Mooshy stepped back from modding a good year or so before dats even shut down completely.

I could show you all how to do it but it's a lot more work than it seems.

I have some experience in 3DSMax and Photoshop etc, though I'm not sure how relevant that is.
I did all of my .dats in Photoshop as well, but you need to download a program to convert .dat images into a standard image file (Model Viewer does this, but AltanaView does not), and then you need another program to convert that image file back into a .dat. This in particular is what I used, I don't know what other options there are.
There's a lot more to it than a simple "how-to" can explain.
When ffxidats.com was around, we had a whole sub-section dedicated to various guides. There were around 30 of them in-total for almost (emphasis on the almost) everything to just know the basics of model editing and recoloring.
