Bonuses in the military are nice, but a joke. I've seen numerous people get kicked out over something you think is small and had to repay all that bonus money. They don't pay you squat unless you agree to serve a honorable 4/6yr commitment. You don't just get it for going to a recruiter's office and saying I'll join so gimme the money. I recommitted for 5 yrs and got a 20K bonus, but the money is lent to me until my 5yrs is up and I didn't get booted. Kinda like a credit. I still had to pay taxes on it and by no means did that seem enjoyable.
