So... Ouch? It won't end well for Niantec or Nintendo. I already submitted my claim. Have to go through Niantec. I am okay with spending money and have no issue not ever receiving a refund. The idea behind the complaint is that people are irritated that the changes were made and no fix to tracking was ever implemented (or commented on). And since they aren't reading emails, people have to make them listen by speaking with their wallets, which is what everyone is doing.
Apple and Google will surely get in contact with Niantec, and we will hear something soon. All of this could seriously just go away if they fix tracking to be incredibly better than it was. I mean, we have an in-game compass and foot prints, which, at the time, was somewhat helpful. But there's at least a half dozen ways to improve on that very simple feature and make pokemon tracking both fun and yet skillful. Taking away that very pertinent feature not only angers diehard players, but isolates the casual ones. FTR, PokePro still spits out pokemon for tracking, so if you're playing and have it installed, you can try that for the time being. Its just not showing everyone available, only a few here and there. I did the manual update, and I still get some of the catch bonuses. Nice, and great, (haven't had an excellent catch yet), but have not received anymore curveball bonuses, and new pokemon bonus xp.
Thing is, I've talked with Rooks and Scragg enough to know that, no matter how simple or insignificant, coding takes time and when you go through an approval process, be it Apple, Google, or Scragg in Rooks' case, even emergency patches take time.
What I'm trying to say is that if they want to remove footprints for enough time to fix tracking; good, great, go for it. However, if you do, DO NOT take down the third party tools that are keeping your game functional. It isn't about what was removed necessarily, it's about the fact that Niantic won't communicate with their users and they made tracking pretty much impossible. The tracker shut downs were poorly timed. It's kinda like third party trackers are like "hey, I'll cover your *** while you get back on your feet" and Niantic refuses. Are we sure Niantic shut down trackers or could the removal of in-app tracking be the cause of tracking sites not working. Was there really a C&D sent or is it just in unfortunate consequence?

That being said, the curveball xp bonus in particular has always been unreliable for me. I've thrown nothing but curveballs for like two weeks now and--despite noticing a large improvement in catch rate compared to the head-on toss--only got the 10xp bonus less than 1/4 of the time. So either I'm confused about what curveballs actually are (spin the ball until it shines, then throw it to the side so it arcs back?) or there's something wrong with the xp bonus. Either way, there are questions: If there's nothing wrong with the xp bonus, I wonder what I'm missing from my throws that don't register as a curveball. If there is something wrong with the xp bonus and I really am throwing curveballs every time, I wonder if the boost to catch rate is being applied when the xp bonus isn't displayed. Unless of course they were doing like 85 or 90 lol I haven't driven since the Patch though so maybe its a new thing but I'll know come Monday when I go to work. Pokevision was nice to have, but it wasn't showing all the pokemon properly, or were showing ones that had already passed their expired spawn time, or 'mons that weren't even up yet.
I'd log into vision and see several squirtle nearby, only to get to the exact area, and only see ratatta. I cannot say as I don't know fully how pulling from .apis work, but I'd think the values would have to be just hidden. Unless a spawn point is generally random for pokemon on the nearby list, it would have to be able to pull its information from somewhere to let the pokemon spawn know you're approaching it in order for it to say "Ok, he's close enough, time to pop.", and if thats the case, a pokemons location must have an id and distance thats trackable. But I'm not a dev, so I could be wrong on things here... I think the more likely thing to happen is Niantic will prioritize a tracking fix, not only with the footprints but better. Even though some may throw their hands up and say Niantic is incompetent, they are now too far into Pokemon Go and probably have contracts with The Pokemon Company, Nintendo, etc. and will have to deliver.
If, IF Niantic doesn't, it most likely won't end well for them. Shiva.Carrelo said: » Bloodrose said: » I did the manual update, and I still get some of the catch bonuses. At least pre-update, you can practically abuse nice/great exp bonuses on throws much easier than post update. Immediately put out a press release saying they are aware of the issue, please bear with them as they implement fixes and a much better pokemon tracking system. Apologize for te inconvenience and reward everyone with 50 GB, 50 UB, 200 Pokeballs, expand everyone's inventory by 100 slots. Also, does anyone know how to disable videos from loading on this page? The ads at the bottom kill my typing every time I open a thread. The bolded wouldn't matter, as you'd have already caught the pokemon and the boost to catch rate would be Put another way, the frequent lack of an xp bonus suggests that only a fraction of curveballs are actually being recognized by the game. If the majority of curveballs aren't being recognized for the purposes of the xp bonus, are they even providing a bonus to catch rate? Suppose I throw a curveball and successfully capture the target, but do not receive the xp bonus. Let's call this a 'dud' curveball. Because most of my curveballs do not result in an xp bonus, it follows that most of them are duds. My concern is that dud curveballs may not be providing a bonus to catch rate either--whatever prevents them from giving the xp bonus in the event of a successful capture may also be preventing them from giving a bonus to catch rate, which would make a majority of my curveballs completely useless and increase the difficulty of catching anything. Or perhaps you're only getting the xp bonus when you wouldn't have captured without the curveball?
That's an interesting concept. But I think its probably much simpler than that: they just coded it poorly.
also, this guy pretty much details this entire game's flaws really nicely and the fixes are spot on. If this were implemented, I bet there'd be a ton of happy faces. |
