Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Personally I'm just enjoying the plethora of fan theories at this point about everything and comparing them to my own.

My personal favorites right now concern Rey parentage and the specifics of Kylo Ren's motivations.

There were absolutely nothing wrong with the EU (mostly).

I don't know if you read any of the novels, but most of them are pretty good.

I still think the movie was good. And my only real complaint (other than the removal of the EU, but that's besides the point) was the rehashing/unoriginal story & plots.

We do not speak of such things....

nothing bad in making references or showing objects locations or stuff from the previous movies, it kinda gives ground for new stuff and sense of progression and continuity.

like the death-star comparison to the death-planet, it gives a sense of volume instead of
"oh they made a weapon of a big planet"
"how big?"
"planet big"

it is also a high tech universe, so it makes sense they have previously seen weapons/ units / bases/ vehicles in their database.
-also; exposition for the viewer.

my only... issue with the series is.

I saw Force Awakens yesterday, and I was positively surprised how this movie kept me entertained its entire duration. Its a good movie even though it was a big challenge to restart an entire new arc for a serie that in theory was concluded, though there were some rehashed scenes (almost like a mixture of chapter 4 and 5).

Anyway, just thought that this movie was a bit rushed in the end. It could very well go for a 3h movie and work better in the end, or simply split the lasts scenes for the chapter 8.

Now, IMO, the worst part of this is to wait another year for the continuation. The character were well designed, I liked them, so it sucks it will take so long till I can see them again.

Not that it matters, but seeing Kylo Ren just reminded me of his character in 'This Is Where I Leave You'.

Yea, I couldn't stop thinking "it's Hannah's Boyfriend" everytime he was without his mask.

Also, the story arc seemed to be right out of the books that were published in the early 90's.

Idk why but he kinda reminds me of justin long in that picture....

...but on the subject of "derivative content", I would hesitate to say in this case one person's 'homage' is another person's 'blatant rip-off' no? ;_;

I enjoy some reboots/sequels, and ones that try to stray too far from the source material (e.g. the newer 'Robocop' movie, the newer 'Prisoner' film, et al) risk alienating too many loyal fans. Others, which try for a safer 'homage' route (like the 'Terminator Salvation', which I thought was pretty fun and clever sadly, or 'Superman Returns') sometimes can be slammed for not being original enough, and too derivative in sampling classic bits.

It takes a very steady hand to create a 'hit' which treads down the middle, hitting a greater audience whilst appeasing die-hard fans (e.g. the newer Battlestar Galactica, or the newer Star Trek franchise reboots.) Some just take a while for audiences to warm up to, as well (like the newer 'Evangelion' or 'Full Metal Alchemist' versions) but develop strong followings after proving their worth.

I personally think that if it's fun and fresh and intellectually-stimulating, then it's ok to take some liberties with both artistic license and classic homage bits/tropes/characterisations...so long as the reworks aren't gratuitously done to begin with (the five thousand 'Tenchi Muyo' reboots come to mind, here...) 9_-;;

I guess I lost interest in Star War...haven't watched any SW film in ten years.

Heeeeyyyyy. I like that. That's a pretty great bit there.

I think we may find out Finn is force sensitive too. In the scene when Starkiller Base fires the superweapon on the Resistance planets and everyone is watching the sky, it appears as though Finn can hear the cries of the people that are soon to be killed. It's just like when Obi-Wan said "I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror, and were suddenly silenced. I fear something terrible has happened." after the destruction of Alderaan.

It would make for a more interesting trilogy if Luke trains multiple people, plus it would mean he successfully starts the new Jedi Order.

my biggest problem is, i think the outcome of ren and rey fight should be opposite, rey hurt but gets away. not the opposite. someone who is trained should prob win, even if weekend. also, any1 notice that harrison ford is on IMDB to be in the next movie?

Has it been like that? Like to not ruin the whole surprise in the first movie? Don't think he could pull off a force ghost..
