FFXI Developer AMA on Reddit!
When exactely did they announce Alluvion Outer Ra'Kaznar Skirmish?
I never remember them saying that once. I only remember a very vague comment which, if anything, was more leading to think that no, they weren't thinking to release it. Someone should ask if they could do a race change event where you pay like 10 bucks to change the race of your character if you choose!

Would be cool to see it honestly, the OCD in me would love it. To close the circle I always imagined a third Alluvion Area with common Dusk and rare Snow. That way we would have: Cirdas/Rala => Common Snow, rare Leaf Yorcia => Common Leaf, rare Dusk Ra'kaz => Common Dusk, rare Snow I'm a bit puzzled at what they could offer though. Surely not Alluvion armor +1 and surely not Alluvion weapons +1 either. In the past I ruled out a 4th augment slot because it would've been too strong, now that's not the case anymore, but please let's not get a 4th type of stone gdi >.> So... what could they possibly offer? I think that's part of the reason why they never bothered/announced about releasing Ra'kaz Alluvion. I am both very excited for this AMA
and very sad because I can already guess most of the answers to these questions Rooks said: » I am both very excited for this AMA and very sad because I can already guess most of the answers to these questions At least we won't see PS2 limitations. Speeding up zoning times would be a QoL improvement beyond belief. Bismarck.Josiahfk said: » Is there any down side to granting his request, like higher maintenance costs or anything? More network throughput; but even bumping it up by a factor of ten puts everyone's connection to the server at 25 KB/s. Assuming a thousand players logged in, a server's maximum outbound would be 25 MB/s, which is basically a mid-range DSL connection. Times 16 servers? 384 MB/s, assuming every server has a thousand people logged in all the time. That's a paltry amount for a worldwide MMO. Sylph.Shadowlina said: » Wouldn't it also speed up inventory load times too? Yeah, that's part of the zoning process. Increasing packet frequency also increases the number of headers sent, so it increases their bandwidth a bit.
Increasing packet size doesn't increase their costs at all, because they send the packets with the same frequency (same volume of header) and just send the information that they end up sending anyway faster. So it wouldn't necessarily even increase the overall data volume sent. It *would* potentially increase the peak bandwidth consumed. Like imagine a bunch of people zone in at once, there would be a bigger spike than when they're flattening it out with their cap. Still, they would only need to go 4x cap (not 10x) to reduce zoning times to ~1s with all inventory spots filled and to eliminate almost all multiple target battle issues. PS. Thanks for the upvotes! I cannot remember a time they EVER answered a question that has their actual technical specs in it. It is like they are living in 2001, and nobody is supposed to know how to reverse engineer their ***. Because of that, they tend to ignore legit questions... At least they're being honest. Saying stuff like No to Siren and no to changing races

Maybe, Leaping Lizzy? |
