Ported over from BG, so going to quote his OP. Figured that I'd share it with you all

So, since im done using them, I might as well let the people know who already didnt. But you can get free skill ups on the Zvahl Fortalices in Castle Z (S). Not like skilling up is hard anymore, but if you wanted to take a weapon from 150 to cap in a few hours while afk, it's kind of nice.

There are 4 forts that ive found in baileys (there are some in keep to, but never looked for them), and they have about 5k hp. Using an event weapon (halloween spear) I skilled on one hitting for 1~2 dmg for about 3 hours. It took me about 4 forts to get 100 skill levels. If youre sub 180 skill, youll need a good amount of acc.

Supposedly theyre supposed to be gaurded, but theyre not, so w/e, enjoy them while they still work.

Basically, find the lowest dmg possible weapon you're trying to skill up and it'll last longer (for example, I'm skilling up gax now on my war since I lv synced most of the way, so I'm using Trainee axe (1 dmg 504 delay).

Well, gonna go shower while I skill up

Sorry pups and mnks, not gonna work for h2h, since your base dmg (from h2h skill) will kill these off much much quicker.

[Mod note: This caps at level 82. Still works as of Feb 2012.]

Very nice.
And i dont see it being changed, due to these not being actualy forts in campaign.

These zones are done differently, but we will see what SE does

Hah!

Great post. You have to give FFXI players credit for finding a way to cheat the system, no matter where it lies.

What's even better is when the "find" really doesn't involve anything actually illegal or against the rules.

Off to skill up!

You'll quickly find out it's not quite that easy. I've skilled a few weapons on them, and it seems like the rate is incredibly slow (But at least you can AFK)

Honestly, it wouldn't surprise me in the least if this was intentional, as with Level Sync, and Campaign Battle, and the looming Cap raise, Player skill levels are suffering. This is a way to rectify the situation, while simultaneously helping the Allied Campaign in the Northlands. (Destroying a Fortilace lowers the max Fortifications by 1, even if you don't have the op active).

If you're expecting to do something else while you skill up, Gratz, if you're expecting a quick, easy way to cap combat skills.. well, you're about to be disappointed.

You might also register for the Campaign Op: Intel Gathering > Bailey Borer, which awards you with EXP/Allied Notes for destroying the Fortalice.

Trying this myself at the moment. Something the BG OP neglected to mention is that ice elementals wander next to the fortalices. Something to keep an eye on when warping out or hasting yourself...

Another note, if you are going to skill up magic on them, they take extra magic damage. This includes Elemental WSes, you'll knock off 20% easily with a 300 TP Elemental WS, stick to physical WSes.

Also, no you can't gain WSP on them.

If you are going to cast, move to corner of the dead end, I was able to spam Dia, Bio and Stone there for a good 2 hours, and not get any aggro off the Elementals.

I was on the first map (with Dark Spark) at the southern Fortalice. The north spot seems to have the same issue of a Demon Warden that comes awful close. You need to be as far as possible within attack range to be completely safe it seems.

Edit: max melee range seems duh, but the original post and half an hour swinging gave me a false sense of security. I just want to let others know it's not completely unguarded.

Any idea on the respawn time of these? I'd guess they respawn every time a campaign battle begins, but I don't know anything about Allied/Confederate supplies..
