Why Do People Hate That Players Put Up Personal Pictures Of Themselves?

Over 10000 views.. and almost 500 replies.. Sorry people, i feel a little responsible lol :P

For those who can see my point, that i put across many pages before this one, you rock and I <3 ya!

For those haters who cant see the fact that, this is a Final Fantasy Database and "Community" (see above at the top left of the page), and that people are going to post real life pics, and should not be rated/commented down, well then you people really just need to lighten up and stop been so pessimistic.

For those who still cant understand what im saying, just go back to your game and get killed by something..... please. :)

It's primarily because most people play MMO's as a form of escapism from real life. The escapism could be due to many reasons. Probably as many reasons as there are people.

But in general, gamers reject any attempt to remind themselves that they're playing with other actual people. Most of you guys are probably too young to remember that it took 10+ years for games to add voice chat, because players refused to use it.

For many people, games are an escape from the inequalities of real life. Whether that's physical differences, or monetary ones... whatever. For instance, the threat of real life money inequality being able to unduly influence the otherwise "egalitarian" in-game achievement scale is the primary reason people reject RMT.

Yes, there's a lot of jealousy regarding real life appearance. (For all that geeks whine about attractive people "judging" them poorly, they sure don't seem to have the hypocrisy filter necessary to not do the same in return. I should share some of the hate mail I got after I posted in the RL pics thread.)

But I don't think that's the primary factor. Rather, it's something inherent to the need to use games as an escape from real life, whatever the reason, and a resistance to anything that reminds them of it.

Never thought of it that way.

I was actually ambivalent about RMT (except looking down on fools who buy gil) until that one x-mas few years back where all the prices spiked through the roof after a month or two of massive wave of RMT advertisements. Then, SE came out with STF, massive banning ensued, and the all of sudden the prices dropped and stabilized.

That was when I realized what a huge effect RMT had on the game and how dangerous it was for the game economy. Since then, I have a borderline irrational hatred of RMT.

Ugly people get pissed when they see better looking people on the net. Simple as that.
