I don't believe recess appointments work for the supreme court.
Edit: Paged. They do, Eisenhower was the last to do it, and he used it 3 times.

For an example of President Obama going full retard on the Supreme Court nominee, I saw the name Janet Napolitano floated as a leading candidate.
Yeah. Forget about that happening. Offline

The only thing stopping Obama from appointing a moderate that can pass unanimously is politics. The same thing the democrats are bashing the Republicans for using to block his liberal nominations.

Any bets on if congress calls an emergency session to address special topics this week..?
Funny how lots of liberals seem to have trouble reading the constitution all of a sudden.
Actually what am I talking about "all of a sudden"? Altimaomega said: » Sylph.Jeanpaul said: » It's genuinely upsetting that your perception and level of awareness doesn't go beyond Facebook images and clickbait. I have no interest in labeling anyone here a racist, since I don't know any of you people personally, but you really ought to think over what you said and try to pay attention to what the people who have voted for Obama are saying now and then, rather than the people who are bitching about his victories. Everywhere? I'm struggling to believe you've ever left your comfort zone and had to question your own position and perspective. I'm trying giving you the benefit of the doubt here, but you're throwing it on the ground. "Seeing things as they are" includes observing that there is institutional racism, sexism, etc, which gives, on the whole, white males an advantage. How can you not notice that movies, shows, and video games are not made with the white guys in mind? How can you not notice that high ranking government positions and the heads of most companies are white guys? How can you ignore that white kids get let off the hook for all kinds of ***that a black kid would get arrested for? This is a deeply sown cultural issue and if you're going to say something as super *** stupid as: Altimaomega said: » I'm saying they can't name his running mate 99% of the time. I'm saying they couldn't tell you what the house and senate are even for. I'm saying they could name 5 celebrities but not 5 congressman. I'm saying they think the Government is something that gives them free stuff and they want more of it. I'm saying they don't care at all about the bill of rights. I could go on and on about things they don't know and don't care about. So you tell me are these people intelligent, are they voting because of Obamas policies and accomplishments? Altimaomega said: » Sylph.Jeanpaul said: » many of which I would definitely call accomplishments. - *** all you want, but the ACA is a net gain. It's not perfect, but most of the problems with health care extend more into the industry than the regulation. Even the "tax for not having insurance" can be avoided with exemptions and tax credits based around your income, the poverty level, and other exemption status. - Repealed Don't Ask, Don't Tell - Repealed the ban on federal funding on stem cell research - Regulated large banks, credit cards, hedge funds, and insurance companies with Dodd-Frank - Ended military involvement in Iraq. If you cite this as the cause for ISIS's rise, then you're wrong; ISIS would've been slipping in at some capacity even if we remained, mostly inspired by our presence there in the first place. - Ordered the military operation that got bin Laden Should I keep going, or can you just try to do some independent learning? Altimaomega said: » Sylph.Jeanpaul said: » Regarding the debt, you can look at it a few different ways: One, which you're doing, simply take the debt when he entered office and compare it to where it is now Altimaomega said: » Sylph.Jeanpaul said: » Two, which is more accurate, is to add up the budget deficits from his own initiatives (and then not ignore the GOP controlled House, which refuses to decrease the absurdly high military budget). Altimaomega said: » Sylph.Jeanpaul said: » As far as unemployment, it's at 4.9%, which is outstanding. Altimaomega said: » Sylph.Jeanpaul said: » What the *** is your argument here? Can you elaborate beyond ambiguous ragging on Obama and the public in general? If you can't, I'm gonna throw a silly gif your way since you're clearly not interested in discussing the campaign weaknesses of the Republican candidates Getting the people that are pissed off at the Establishment and don't vote should be the number one priority. Not minority groups, they are lost to the democrat party of low-information voters. Altimaomega said: » How can you possibly be intelligent enough to understand this. Sylph.Jeanpaul said: » I will more than agree that the party is far from perfect, and the only reason I've registered as one is to vote in the primaries. If you observe the history of the party, there's actually a paradigm shift that came when Carter was elected, which continued with Clinton and to some extent, Obama: Prior Democrats (FDR, LBJ) were thoroughly in favor of socialist programs, while Carter and Clinton were, economically speaking, more in line with Reagan (see: Glass-Steagall). This is one way to view the Clinton and Sanders race (regarding domestic affairs), with Clinton being more like Carter and her husband, and Sanders working like FDR and LBJ. Sylph.Jeanpaul said: » Feel free to exemplify how voting Democrat causes those things. Altimaomega said: » I cannot for the life of me understand why people want to give away their freedoms, liberty, and 50%+ of their income to the government. Altimaomega said: » Sylph.Jeanpaul said: » But the focus of these taxes (which skew very heavily towards the wealthy and light on the poor) improves public sector entities like our schools, health care, and infrastructure. Why do you have a problem with improving those things? Cuz Democrats sure as hell aren't taking our civil liberties. And that is just under Obama... Altimaomega said: » Also, I just read that the Californian city of San Diego tried banning the term Founding Fathers.. Any city worker caught saying/using it would be "disciplined" .. Luckily the Mayor leans Republican (although is most likely RINO) put an end to it. I would be guessing how it got put into any kind of rule/law, but I'd imagine a Republican had nothing to do with it and a democrat was grinning ear to ear. Not only are our 1st amendment rights getting trampled on, so are our founding fathers. I'm having to type way too much responding to your crap. Offline

Candlejack said: » Nausi, if anyone's breaking the law here, it's the congressional republicans in their outright refusal to do the duties they've been tasked with carrying out, such as currently. Candlejack said: » They're basically using the constitution as a doormat. He would be overriding the checks and balances put in place. Sure he can probably legally do it, but it would be political suicide the only people he would please are hardcore liberals. Thus continuing to divide the American people. Gonna let my gal Liz Wo do the talkin':
Elizabeth Warren said: The sudden death of Justice Scalia creates an immediate vacancy on the most important court in the United States. Senator McConnell is right that the American people should have a voice in the selection of the next Supreme Court justice. In fact, they did — when President Obama won the 2012 election by five million votes. Article II Section 2 of the Constitution says the President of the United States nominates justices to the Supreme Court, with the advice and consent of the Senate. I can't find a clause that says "...except when there's a year left in the term of a Democratic President." Senate Republicans took an oath just like Senate Democrats did. Abandoning the duties they swore to uphold would threaten both the Constitution and our democracy itself. It would also prove that all the Republican talk about loving the Constitution is just that — empty talk. Sylph.Jeanpaul said: » What is the 90+ million people figure? Who does that represent? Where are you getting that number from? Is it retirees as Kyte mentioned? Why can't you explain anything or cite sources? The 4.9% came from the Department of Labor, which I linked but you removed that for some reason. Read the pdf. There is no time limit stipulation on the congressional responsibility to deliberate a SJC nomination.
Warren doesn't know ***, but that's hardly surprising. Must be those "high cheekbones". Why is this so hard to understand. It is the President and only the President that can nominate, that is his job. THEN, the it is Congresses job to confirm the nomination if they deem the nominee fit for the position, they do not have to confirm anyone!
This is Not Hard.. Why are you sheep only looking at the first part and ignoring the second!?! Oh.. Because politics. What is moon man? Plus you really need to stop assuming I listen to anyone..
But that would take away from all of your posts, since you do not rely on anything other than assumptions and insults. |
