That is because humans are tribal creatures by nature. We always form tribes based on similarities and common goals. It's ok for you to cite references to other countries' past leaders, but not ok for them to cite anything the U.S. has done, unless it's a generalization absolving the U.S. of any direct responsibility?

It is in the context of the cultural perception of an us versus them mentality that Russia has historically had for well over a thousand years. example: Eastern Orthodox v Catholicism.
How about the context of Putin of wishing to restore Russia to the height of CCCP?
How about the context of Russia not doing a very good job against Georgia, making a mockery of it's military might and efficiency in 2008?

Well that is a good question. They were under pressure to abide by international law, yet somehow international law did not apply to their situation unless it was them who was breaking it. Damned if you do, and damned if you don't situation. Russia does not like waiting around for nothing to happen. You'll get the benefit of the doubt, but not for long without any concrete actions. Well 9-11-2001 made the statement that it's not really a good idea in the long run and that things can come back to bite you in the ***. I have heard they are having problems with the engines for the T-50, focusing too much on the stealth and less on the durability (typical Sukhoi). Nobody really knows for sure it is probably still at least 5 years away from being fully deployable, but I doubt it will end up being a rival to the F-22.

I thought we abandoned the Raptor for the F-35. Also there was that problem where the production F/A22's couldn't ascend particularly high because of issues in the pressure systems.
Probably should have gone with the YF23 Black Widow instead, plus that thing just looked hella cool.

No. The F-35 is dead/dying. Its been a disaster, a Frankenstein if you will, an endless money pit, its not even in service 10 years later and likely never will be. The F-22 is a great airplane.
I probably just have the nouns reversed again. I do that sometimes. As an Ace Combat fan (Before Assault Horizon, *** that game) I spent a lot of hours in the cockpit of an F22.

The F-35 has been a financial and technological failure.
It's gone over-budget and has cost more money than the F-22. There has been one mechanical or manufacturing failure after another for that aircraft. The Pentagon/USAF even slashed the number of orders of the F-35.
I still wonder why they continue to throw money at it. Oh, that's right, we need to replace the aging F-16/F-18 jets on aircraft carriers if I recall. I remember something along the lines we needed an aircraft for the Marines, Navy, and Air Force especially one with STOL (short take-off/landing) capability.
