FFXIV has more of that classic FFXI feel to me than the new FFXI. This is how I feel about it your more than welcome to disagree but you might want to check it out.

FFXIV seems more like a FF meets WoW but not completely, basically wait till 2.0 lol
Feels more like the game I played 8 years ago.. I dunno.. it's kinda a dejavu thing..
Abyssea failed to impress me.. I honestly just got too bored with it and I was so sad to see all the areas I loved used for nothing now.. I'd sit in my mog house and do nothing.. did that for days it didn't even make sense but that is what I did.. then someone in the LS asked "Hea, anyone know how to get a Fomor Codex?!" I poped up instantly and ran off to get one.. I dropped it very fast and 30 minutes later I traded it over to him for free and told him he made my day.. I was so happy to be useful again and do something I thought was fun.. After that I realized that what FFXI was to me was gone..
I think the last thing I did was solo despot on mnk with chi-blast.. just for fun, like in the old days. :)

Lol weren't you prosecuted by a GM of holding? XD
Prob killed it over a hundred times, soloed lots of other things too that you can with movement.. never once seen a GM. So long as your killing it your good.
