Star Ocean 5: CONFIRMED
I think I feel exactly the same way. Wow I love Star Ocean 2.
I don't think I had a problem with Lymle, I had a problem with her voice actor. KAY?
It's funny that SO2 had such a hold on me where it forces me to love and accept all the others lol. Siren.Clinpachii said: » I had a problem with her voice actor Thats why I switched the sound to JP in SO4, the English was awful.
Anyways, it looked like the redhead is a melee fighter with Cliff Fittir's moveset. Which is FINE. WITH. ME. I have already confirmed Hammer of Might and Acrobat Locus as being in her arsenal. SO5 Delayed in Japan
Pushed back about a month, no word on the NA release date, but its confirmed to be appearing at Jump Festa in mid-December, so maybe we will get some useful information then. 20 minutes of new gameplay, pretty early in the game judging on party size and movesets being used. No translation atm.

its amazing how similar the systems are. Even without being told you can tell its a Star Ocean.
And that scene at 0.22-0.23 reminds me of sky YouTube Video Placeholder 3rd livestream. Haven't watched it yet, but its a long one. Everything about this game is looking good. Edit #1 - Looks like the stream starts at the 3 min mark. YouTube Video Placeholder First of many character introduction trailers, looks like the game has special moves, can see Fidel using Ethereal Blast there, and yep, still pretty! Edit #2 YT embeds fixed. Two new character trailers. First Miki Sauvester, Fidel's "companion/love interest."
YouTube Video Placeholder Second is Victor Oakville, Fidel's mentor. YouTube Video Placeholder This is the Anne character trailer, the character I will probably use the most in battle. She has Cliff Fittir's moveset, I can confirm now I have seen Hammer of Might, Fists of Fury, and Acrobat Locus.

I'm glad they're a bit older this time
Character trailer for Emmerson, not really excited for this character.

YouTube Video Placeholder Only voice I don't like is Emmerson. 3+ weeks away from release in Japan, hopefully a NA release date is announced soon. Offline

Hopefully its just a precursor, cause that lack of lip sync is awful
Well I think they just recorded lines over the trailer, I don't think its actually in game recording.
Here is the very first Star Log, a English livestream with new reveals and information. The actual stream starts at 6:58, I tried linking directly to it but it just doesn't want to work.
It contains 3 new trailers which I will link below if you don't feel like sifting through the stream, even though its relatively short. YouTube Video Placeholder Also, they answered the two biggest questions at the end, the first being can you switch between English and JP voiceovers with appropriate subtitles, and the answer is yes you can. That is a big feature just because most of us remember SO4's English voiceover to be atrocious. And tbh, this voiceover doesn't sound too great either. The second is the western release date, which they have tentatively announced to be summer 2016. They promised to reveal the actual date soon tho, in typical SE fashion, possibly in their next Star Log on April 12, which considering the game will be out in Japan by then, isn't unreasonable. This makes me very happy and it's a guaranteed buy now lol Release date confirmed for June 28th!
Hooray! Still waiting for the price of the Day one edition, but if its only 10 dollars more I will pick it up. 70 minutes of English gameplay, featuring the beginning of the game and a later time skip to incorporate 6 characters. Voices don't sound too bad.
YouTube Video Placeholder I heard that this is getting pretty bad reviews in Japan already. Disappointing.

Quote: Man this game is getting absolutely destroyed by Japanese consumer reviews. The most common problems being cited: -Poor camera -Small scale of the story: Feels like a fight between villages rather than the war between countries it is supposed to be. -Lazy storytelling: Cutscenes simply tell you about that factions/ships are fighting each other, but there's no actual shots of the action -No ability to skip cutscenes: A problem when you have to retry because of the erratic difficulty level -Small scale of the world: Only one world (you go into Space only to come right back down to the same place) with loads of backtracking (you are still in the same places at the end of the game as you are at the beginning) -The game lets you control various characters, but some characters stand at the edge of the battlefield (the zone you stand in to run away) when a battle breaks out. The result is that if you choose certain characters you auto-run from battles when they break out (how did they mess that up?!) -- essentially making it impossible to ACTUALLY play with some of the characters in battle -Too many special effects: Can't make heads or tails of what the heck is happening in battle The general consensus is the game was under-budgeted or rushed (or both). TBH I'm contemplating picking up the import because I just can't fathom how the game can be as bad as everyone is saying. Quote: The game is getting terrible reviews in Japan. Most notably, the response seems to be that the game feels very low-budget and typical playthroughs are 20 hours or less with a lot around 15-16 hours (and this is saying something since you can't skip cutscenes). Also, the ending is very abrupt, with no real climax, and there are only a handful of towns. Most reviewers like SO4 more (which is saying something) because it is much deeper. Some people indicated that they felt SO5 was testing the waters, so to speak, to see if there was any interest. That's a couple things I saw earlier.
