ebow that I camped way back before the day the arrows died. I got so much mileage out of that baby that I just couldn't get rid of her.
A bone hairpin that a friend crafted for me back when we played together. He passed away a year later. I always keep it on my character in my bazaar regardless of inventory constraints.

As far as gear I still "use", I got my Kirin's Osode back many moons ago when it was still a big achievement and it's more or less always on me when I'm on a job that can equip it. I frequently use it + Seiryu's Kote as blinmenot gear.

I've still got my Windurstian Ring but that's too easy. I've got a pair of Stun Kukri +1 from when I first hit 75 (I was using them at Lv68 or w/e). I was so excited about those when I first got them, and the fact that they were +1. That was in the first year of FFXI's NA release on PC.

Not really gear, but before I quit I still had my Adventurer's coupon, which I originally kept because I believed some *** about it increasing in value with time. When I finally learned that was a lie, I decided to keep it in storage as a constant reminder that people are liars.

If we're talking any piece of gear it'd be the Claymore I bought on day 3 of playing, but if it's "special" r/e type gear, that'd probably be Wing Pendent... Among all the other r/e gear and sets of armor. I'm a damn pack rat lol. My mules and storage NPCs are packed to the brim with 10 years worth of equipment. Post-75 era is when I finally began tossing useless gear, mostly because it's all re-obtainable AND sucky.

And then you re-obtained a ton of it because it turns out you needed it after all these years, because game designers are sadistic ***.
Very first item I ever got (and still have) is the Bastokan Ring. A close runner up would be my Happy Egg.

The list goes on.. i'm a damn pack-rat.
Out of those.. I would say Life Belt, or Leaping Boots are probably the oldest, followed by cuffs, assault jerkin, and Gae Bolg.

Sandy ring, astral rings, leaping boots, emperor hairpin the list is pretty long pack rat since what 2004.
I still have my starter set and knife 12 years and I can't seem to throw it away.

I have a mule just for weapons, one for wardrobe, one for crafting mats and another as a dedicated AH seller/fish freezer.
I used to have a linkshell for newer players and found myself loaning them gear constantly. I never broke the habit of saving things. On occasion folks would give me items when they quit playing because they knew I'd save or share them. Now that I'm playing again it's coming in handy.
I still use the angler's gear my friend/co-worker gave me when I started playing back in 2007? Broke that halcyon long ago however.

Completely forgot about Battle Gloves.
I ended up augmenting mine when that first came and got Acc +2 CHR +1 lol.. not bad. Have probably had them longer than any piece of gear other that starting RSE/Ring.
I still have a spike necklace that I bought when I was levelling my first job to 30 in 2004. It was my first piece of HQ gear and it was handy for so long I never sold it... then when I didn't need it anymore I held on to it for sentimental value.
