Quick with a blade as well as an incantation, these versatile duelists employ the power of arcane runes to sway the tide of battle both offensively and defensively.

Rune Fencer Overview


Strengths

  • Their exceptional magic defense and elemental resistance put them squarely in the tank category, along with paladins and ninjas.

  • Two broad categories round out their runic arsenal:

    • Element-based runes add elemental damage to attacks and increase resistance to certain elements.
    • Enchantment-based runes increase either the fencer's attacking prowess or their ability to defend.

  • Rune fencers will possess versatile abilities like one that cuts the duration of the next enhancing magic spell cast on them by half, but in turn amplifies the spell's effect 1.5 times, and another that erects a barrier that reduces magic damage.

So besides what we know Rune Knight to be from the FF universe and all the "Rdm killer" stuff, anyone else highly disappointed that it wasn't Berserker or Viking besides me? First impressions from that seems like this job wont be very fun imo since I've done kinda what it might do on Rdm on a lower scale.

Not really. I kinda figured it wouldn't be Berserker because that is basically what Warrior is with all the job abilities it has access to. This would make a fifth mage/melee hybrid job (not counting the ever popular "MEREE ONRY" WHMs out there. But I guess I should count PLD and DRK... :x) So I'm going to at least see what its about. Though I'll most likely level this lol.

i think they are waiting for those jobs on another expansion (if there is one) for example, i could see them implementing viking if they do an expansion to the north, in the orc homeland, home of the vikings or something.

then again what type of job will viking be? sure it'll main hand axes, but how much diff can you make it from a war using axes, without being Overpowered?

It did say rune fencer, the gear seems like itll float like bst/drg mild to heavy gear...But I think that the name is incredibly deceiving since it does seem to be a 2hand job. I am guessing it will be similar to Fighter/Gladiator in FFTA/2 with ele based ja like air render/blast hopefully doublehand (1 hand a 2handed wep) maybe blitz and counter? I am envisioning a RDM a DNC and a DRK had a 3 way and this their baby... a self enhanced 2hand DD, possibly a counter tank?
