There's also the logical fact that a dead person will sink to the bottom of a body of water before becoming buoyant again, while a living person has enough buoyancy to float while at rest. I'm sure there's more to this than how simple it sounds.
Edit: not to mention the physical and internal shock of having your liver (vital organ) and part of your intestine (also part of a vital organ) pierced/slashed, which can cause death if not treated properly and immediately.
The game never said she voided her bowels, the point is moot until we get that straightened out!
