Thinking To Return FFXI

I've left FFXI about 6 months ago or so since after my daughter was born. I just want to know what are the most useful job by now? My main was Red Mage and Dragoon and left Dragoon off at lvl 80, is it still useful if so what armor and such shall I upgrade and so on?

From what I hear Monk and whitemage are the two top jobs.
But I don't play anymore, or really pay attention to the current favorite jobs.

I'm also thinking doing world transfer it'd be to Fenrir from my current Unicorn, it been so long since I've last play ffxi for a whiles and hope I'd be able to play for maybe 2 or 3 hours while handing my daughter at same time. Any advice from Fenrir?

Unicorn is merging into Fenrir within the next month or so, and I believe world transfers are disabled for the moment?

Are you trolling? Why would you pay for a World Transfer to Fenrir when Unicorn is being merged with Fenrir?

Depending on your attitude and objectives in FFXI upon your return, I would certainly welcome more friends interested in light hearted adventuring and sticking around at level 75 to get the full effect of many activities which unfortunately have lost their luster and popularity status such as Nyzul, Salvage, Einherjar, Sky, Sea, ENM, ZNM, etc.

The honest truth is any job can get stuff done these days..

I've seen pld's out soloing AF body NM's and other stuff before..

Your job might not be the most efficient DD or magic user in the game..

but nothing is really groundbreaking or difficult atm.

Play what you like and don't band wagon a job .. my 2 cents

It's fun, just be prepared to spend a lot of time catching up!!

I say take your time, experiment. There's no rush to "catch up". Catch up to who?!? There're people still doing Limit breaks, for pete's sake. Play around with the jobs. It's what I recommend to anyone that's even starting the game from scratch. There's no rush to anything.

I recommend looking over this thread and doing some light reading here if you're wanting to come back prepared.

Personally, I'd glance over the Abyssea stuff and work out what I was doing as I went along (as most people I know did), with a couple of decent friends, it won't take long for you to catch up in terms of in-game know how.

The game's taken a more casual route now (NM's repop in 10~15min, several NM's are 3min ??? pops, etc) and the days of killing something a hundred times for that piece of gear are over, these NM's have respectable drop rates and methods of influencing those drop rates.

You can accomplish a lot more in a shorter time, which is perfect for people whose lives have become busier or just generally have a different schedule.

Level every job and play them all. It's what I do. Keeps things fresh when you can play whatever. I'm almost half tempted to buy a 20 sided die and when I log on each day, roll it to let it decide which job I'm playing that day.

I'm also wanting to come back, I just can't find any game that comes close to FFXI on any level or one that I don't get bored of after 3 days. I really want to play my thf again ^^ Too bad my wife yells at me each month for the fee... women suck, don't get married.

I'm coming back next monday or so, I need to pay my fees and I need to wait to be paid first.
