Sometimes people have been surprised that I'm a girl but it doesn't bother me one bit, personally, I don't think it's strange/weird at all lol, I know there are many mithra who are guys - my bf was one of them XD

Female and my main is a female hume, but all my mules are males!
I hope you realize that writing a paper on this subject in the context of FFXI is going to have a skewed result because each race has different qualities, and one of the races is female only. Some male players might be playing a female character (mithra) just because of the racial stats.
I suggest either using a different game, or write about this possible skew in the paper.

I dualbox, I have a male elvaan (85 MNK) a female elvaan (86 WHM) and a male Tarutaru (90 BLM). I'm male irl. So that's 1 male character, 1 female character, and 1 walking watermelon.
My highest level, first created and most played on character would be the taru male. So male/male.

Why are you staring at an *** instead of the game? Does that mean when you play a male character in any game you just constantly stare at his ***?
This is a stupid justification for choosing a different gender in game.

Well it seems like males playing female humes are not very common (that's what I used to play as... oh well)
One time I was talking about this on my LS and I said:
"If males playing mithra are called mantras, what males playing female
humes would be ?"
A fellow LS member replied almost instantly:

Oh! There is another girl on Caitsith who use to play as a Mithra, but was harassed so much she changed to Male/Elvaan. I wish I remembered her name.
