Anyways, tl;dr: I'm going downhill but it's not FF's fault. It's my own fault.

This. And actually, I was doing better when I was in a hardcore endgame LS. I used to go run around the neighborhood for ~25 minutes in between HNM intervals... Come back for int, no pop, go running again, etc.

A university academic conducted a series of physical and psychological tests to determine whether playing on computers could be defined as a sport.

"The cyber-sportsmen had mental sharpness and psychological traits comparable to 'real' athletes, and reacted to visual stimuli almost as fast as fighter jet pilots. But their fitness levels were shockingly low and comparable to people either much younger or much older than their actual age.

One leading gamer in his twenties appeared to be slim and healthy with a physique similar to an endurance athlete. But tests revealed he in fact had the lung function and aerobic fitness of a heavy smoker in his sixties.

Dr Micklewright blamed the gaming lifestyle of spending 10 hours a day in front a computer screen and warned youngsters against such a sedentary lifestyle. He said: 'Someone of this age should be much fitter, but perhaps this is the occupational hazard of the professional gamer who can spend around 10 hours a day in front of a screen.'"

Makes me think what shape Im in, and Im 36 yrs old.. Good grief, Charlie Brown.... wow holy cow Jaerik I guess I should call and have my pine box reserved huh? LMAO... =P

I walk about a mile to the liquor store when it's nice out. So that's like 2 miles 3-4 times/week of exercise. That definitely counts.

HAHAHA I like this one!!! LMAO!! Do you carry the emptys when you return them, meaning if you buy beer...

If they would just do away with hand held controllers and make everything controlled by a DDR type pad, we'd all be alot moar in shape.

srsly, imagine having to physically run to get places in FFXI.

Some fatasses Chocobo to the *** Dimensional portal on the way from Crag->Al'Taeiu. So I don't think that'd help. XD

Yep... I like your attitude Bart!!

I walk on my job as a Custodial engineer for 7.5 hrs straight. b.c I have places to clean all over a industrial complex.

IDk bout how long or how much...maybe or guessing I walk about 3 miles a shift... and I work 5 days a week... put that into perspective.

I am over 30, I was overweight 3 years ago, but now I run 10 km everyday and stay away from fast food. I'm close to the point you guys would call perfect fit. Exercise is very important, especially when you pass 30 years old bar.

I have a question WHO CARES? How many of us who actually play this game are trying to out to be in a professional sports team if they are they shouldn't be playing its that simple. As far as us being quick on decisions that is a good thing to take from this experience and use it in the future. I am not going to train to be a jet pilot in my life so these wont benefit me there, but I bet you when the time comes where there is an emergency decision to be made that can be could be life or death someone will know how to do it and that is much more important that catching a football. Some people hate on people who play this game and others of the same type and what they don't realize is they are hypocrite. One example my aunt asked me why don't I just quit this game well I ask her before I replied what do you do in your free time. She said I like to watch T.V and Camp and crochette. Well I asked why doesn't she quit doing those things and find something different to do. She had nothing to say but shut up. That just gos to show this is what we do best don't hate on us for it and let us be happy. Not everyone has the body of a 60 year old and we are not exactly in an apocolyptic state of living either. So you tell me what is it we need to run away from?

Same here except for the deployed part. ;D Seriously ... I know MANY non-gamers that are in worse shape than the gamers I know/play with. That article is crap.

People who are out of shape are that way because of a lack of motivation for the most part, not because they play games. That's not an insult to those that are out of shape either... it's just the truth. I have pull-up bars and benches here. While I camp NMs or am waiting on an event to start or campaigning... I workout. It's very simple and effective. Meh

I think this article would only truly apply to those who game day in, day out, and seek to be a "professional gamer" as a career. The rest of us that have a grasp on reality and real life obligations such as work, school, getting out and having friends, won't have to worry about such a ludicrous accusation.

For some reason the last 4-5 months or so. I changed my priorities and cared alot more about school, friends and family. I was a die hard ffxi player. I blew off alot of things just to play. Since summer break started about a month ago I've been lifting weights and running consistantly 4-6 days a week. I feel alot better and am alot healthier. I ran with my friend the other day and I had never been able to run that far even when I was doing karate and working out back in high school.

I have played ffxi a few times recently though. I even got 76SAM last night!

Unfortunately I just started an office job. :/ full-time. So I have alot less free time. I am still trying to think of a good way to make time to stay healthy, see friends and play video games.

And I'm 22, 5'5" and 124 lbs btw. I also have trouble gaining weight... I'd really like to bulk up with a bit of muscle.. I suppose I have gained a couple pounds in the last month from working out. Anyone have any advice?

The sad thing is... i joined the military and have had to PT every day during the week day. I can easily see this being true because i constantly get asked "Do you drink or smoke or something?". Luckily within the past month i've built up some decent endurance. I'm lucky I'm not fat or this would be 20x's worse believe me.

I still have 10 weeks left before i ship out but damn i wish i could go back and do this somewhat over again lol.

Ehhh I've taken 6 years of martial arts and 3 years of weapons training (foil and sabre). I exercise 2hours a day everyday (well I skip a day or two in a busy week, who doesn't) and the only thing that would mar my physical aptitude as tested in such a study would be my naturally low blood pressure (/sigh... genetics) or my asthma (... is that genetic too? Oh well).

Anyway, I know plenty of other FFXI players who put in good hours at the gym and play basketball at their rec centers n' such all the time...

If you ask me this was a very poorly controlled experiment.

And I bet half of the test subjects WERE 60 year old chain smokers.

If this is true, this is the best fun fact I've heard in the past year.

Also, best FFXIAH.com avatar EVER. You win the site sir.
