RMTs Playing The AH Game (Cerb)

For anyone on Cerberus, or perhaps other servers, you may have noticed some weird things happening with the selling of Ambuscade materials lately.





There is an army of RMT bots running around on Cerberus spamming Ambuscade almost 24/7. They gain more from this farm by artificially raising the prices by buying from themselves each time the price is reasonably lowered.

Alexandrite typically sells for 190-200k, not 290k. Plutons were going for about 100-150k not so long ago, but it has skyrocketed to over 200k. It has become the most expensive compared to other servers.

Please do not feed the machine. Wait for actual players to sell materials at a decent price and you'll save gil. That is, unless you want to encourage RMT activity... which is a choice I would not respect, but each to their own.

I had this recently making Tizona. I would buy enough to clear the AH history page at 190-200k, then within about 30 minutes would be full of sales at 290k.

Lakshmi has been owned by Riruchan doing this for going on a decade. Anything you want goes through the price he decides.

The AH and this site only update every so often, and it only records the last ten transactions when it does so, so something going from 190k to 290k is probably just someone emptying the AH.

No, this has been going on for weeks.

I had an interesting conversation with someone who was yelling to buy Alexandrite at "reduced price" about a month ago, and they told me exactly what I had been suspecting about the RMT. I sold my stock of Alex straight to them at the reduced price and we were both happier for it.

Market manipulation is just part of the way blind auctions work.

reminds me of the time Eiryl bombarded me with hilarious hate messages for over a week because I undercut some stacks of 200k unity materials by 50k.

Related though, if you're undercutting 25% yeah, you deserve the hate. That makes you scum.

Selling items to yourself to boost the cost of the product is specifically illegal. Our little world, unfortunately, lacks the $$ it once had to police such items.

But IRL it's not a feature. It's illegal for a reason. Communists do this all the time and, well, it works out awesome if your goal is mass starvation.

Seen this type of AH manipulation for ages with selected crafting materials. That it now extends to the main gil makers with the highest turnover rates should be concerning.

Seen it also with other gil makers where if you'd list it for the AH price, even if heavily undercut, it would never sell despite being listed with a fast to very fast sales history. To make a actual sell you'd have to undercut by around 50%... who knows the actual market value if price history immediately gets reset, at that point you might as well don't display a history at all and let people just type random numbers for bids.

That SE still doesn't bother to take actions shows what a death grip these parasites have on this game and how little SE cares about it's paying customers.

I can sigh with a high degree of certaintity this is not rooted in real money trade, more like get my characters rich and take advantage of other players.

It's been going on for at least a year now. Always try to bid 100k or more under the AH price for any of the REMA weapon items. The dancing Galka in Port Jeuno and the ones in Nashmau are part of it. The AH on our server in general is just messed up with nothing selling for the most part since the bigger servers were closed off.

Some people take it more serious than others.

Terrible take, when there's a 105 on the AH and 5 sell per day, list it for 1 gil (or NPC price + 1 gil (and quite frankly figuring this out is not worth my time, i'd rather lose the money and help another player out) and hope for the best.

Even for high demand items sometimes people may just want to clear their inventory. (and these likely return to normal price quickly because unless you have an army of mules, you can't keep up with demand).

Having something use 1/7th of your AH slots sell days later to make an extra 100k is not worth it.

Along with father time, the law of economics is undefeated.
Demand > Supply = price goes up
Supply > Demand = price goes down

I'm gonna make sure mine cuts to the front of the line at the risk of selling for 25% less and reclaim my inventory.

If you've ever played WoW the difference in volume of AH traffic is astounding. I'm afraid that the server room at FFXI HQ would explode if they gave people more than 7 slots. Even FFXIV hamstrings you and you have to pay for more retainers to bypass the limit.

Retainers are just a form of micro transactions.

Depends what it is (and what i have that's sellable)

If its stackable and long term consumable (like delve items from christmas login campaign) sure, I'll wait it out.

If its phalanx scroll due to everyone spamming the BC from vana'bout, I'll take 200k over the NPC price or holding onto it for 2 months for the price to rise again. Even if every single person lists it for 500k if you're #106 in line, it ain't selling. And if some guy ends up in my party and I ask for phalanxga "I can't afford it" or "none on AH" are not answers I want to hear.
