I'm contemplating coming back in 2-3 months, would be nice to see some familiar faces.

I'm in touch with SE, trying to pry WyldFyre from the task Force's loving embrace (Salvage ban over Morrigan's Cuffs, lol). If successful, you'll be seeing a laughably undergeared (by today's standards) 75 capped taru blm wandering around in the near future.
If they maintain their death grip, I'll just reroll in a few months. I know I can rebuild faster than it takes to potentially reclaim, but WyldFyre is who I am.

Don't be taken in by the price, $4000 of that is for the dual 4k monitors (4k for 4k, lol)

XI (even when using dgvoodoo to enable hardware acceleration) largely relies on single-threaded, single-core CPU performance so the best piece of hardware you have in your configuration is the 9900K. You could be running a single 970 and still get the same performance as those NVLink 2080 Tis.
I also find it weird to buy a prebuilt computer with all this enthusiast-level hardware for $13k when you could spend the time to become an enthusiast and learn about the hardware for $6k~8k. Spend it if you have it I guess.
Using that pc setup for ffxi is like driving a ferrari at the gokart track. You spent $13k to smoke out little timmy and his two stroke.
its been a while but last i checked multi graphics card configurations were frequently the cause of micro stuttering in various tests. thats just one of some very questionable decisions in that build tho.

NVLink's high-bandwidth mesh configuration removed the problems with SLI. SLI was configured in a "master" "slave" configuration meaning that all communication still had to go through the master card over a ~2gb/s bridge. So it was relatively worthless.
NVLink supports bi-directional communication at speeds up to 300gb/s so bridge bottlenecking is not really a thing anymore. NVLink is brand new to the RTX series of cards.
Still, the only reason to use NVLink is for high-bandwidth rendering scenarios so there literally isn't a single thing you can do that would come close to fully utilizing two RTX 2080 Tis without using the system for workstation purposes.

Yeah, i'd rather get a 144hz 1080x3800 ultrawide with a side 4k screen maybe. And that would be half the cost.

Probably not with RTX on because it's a gimmick that just tanks performance.
