Chad Rune Fencer, call 'em the poon fencer~ i don't get what all the hate on PLD is about? your saying if your doing a run of most content in the game and need a tank. you outright refuse to take a PLD over a RUN? also. having a hard time to justify the cost. the stat bonuses for +1 they are great. but for 24m gil?
differance in HQ Souveran and NQ Refresh +1 HP +205 breth damage -1% PDT -3% MDT -2% DT -2% phalanx +1 resists charm +5 enimity +3 assuming you choose A for legs. NQ cost 390k HQ cost 24M Any single one of those is worth 100m to the people you're talking to.
Trying to debate your way out of 24m when you can make that in a couple hours. Don't even bother. Don't even bother. you show me how a ill equipped player returning from 2-3 years ago can earn 24 mil in a couple hours and ill shut my mouth and buy the HQ set. Dynamis farming. Salvage farming. Stacks of fire clusters sell for over 100k for Christ sake. It boils down to you just not wanting to spend any extra gil because you're fine with the minimum. New player gil:
Step 1: gain XP is an easy 3 mil from sparks. Use accolades for UNM or buy keys and pray. Do this in an escha zone and open all brown boxes looking for escha ore and pop items. Step 2: join ambu E/N farms buy a capes worth of items and then get gil drops. Sell them. Step 3: dynamis/salvage farming Step 4: omen farming for stalwart. 180k each bring TH pull slowly with your best DPS job and 5 trust. Offline

RUN is tanking in advanced mode: you'll have to juggle with lots of things and it has less room for errors, but it brings more to the table because it can tank, DD and support defensively your party too. That's your choice, what's better for you? A solid tank that does nothing more than that or another that can do the job and more but at a price? Lmao pls. The only reason people say pld is the better tank is cos they've never seen a player play RUN properly and they are probably squishy as hell. Literally rune tanks anything better than a pld can do when the right player is in control. There are situations that pld survive better than run and vice versa. Arguing "who survive better" is kind of silly anyways, since both can survive fine for most if not everything if done properly. So what matter the most next is which job brings more to the table. Nobody say that. They only said invest in run worth more than pld. Offline

Honestly, the last time I played a tank job was back at the 75 cap era and I heavily preferred my nin/drk over my pld back then.
However, recent boredom and desire to level a new job, I decided to go play PLD again after all these years. While RUN in itself is amazing and would love to learn the job myself, I'll stick to what I know what to play first and eventually move over. I'm in the same boat as OP and have looked around for updated gear sets but came little to none. Sets I currently built for myself are as follows: -Turtle -Hybrid *DTDD* -Pure DD TP set -Enmity + -Cure sets *Self, Potency, SIRD* -SIRD general other spells -WS Set: Only my Savage Blade so far, need CDC etc -Phalanx -Shield Bash -Reprisal If there are any other sets I missed, please share! Last but not least, the evolution of SJ's now requiring /blu to the arsenal. I've never played BLU in my FF career but to start off, what are the mandatory /blu spells that I'd need to learn to make it work? If people can chime in and give that advice, that'd be appreciated also. /blu spells for tanking:
Useful buffs: Cocoon Refueling Enmity Spells: blank gaze Jettatura Sheep song Soporific Geist Wall Stinking Gas Healing: Healing Breeze Wild Carrot Traits: Beast Killer: Sprout smack + Wild Oats Lizard Killer: Foot Kick + Claw Cyclone Undead Killer: Bludgeon + Smite of Rage Plant Killer: Power Attack + Mandibular Bite Defense Bonus: Grand Slam + Terror Touch Resist Sleep: Wild Carrot + Pollen Attack Bonus: Battle Dance + Uppercut Auto-Regen: Healing Breeze + Sheep Song Max MP Boost: Metallic body + Mysterious Light Magic Atk. Bonus: Sound Blast + Cursed Sphere These are pretty much all the spells that are useful for /blu tanking. There might be a couple others w/ limited utility. I suggest getting all spells below level 50 anyway. Not all will be useful for PLD. Pld has better curing spells. though its possible Heeling Breeze might be useful. Ofcourse blue magic skill will be so low that you can't expect any decent damage or accuracy or magic accuracy from any of these spells. From the enmity spells, Blank Gaze, Jettatura and either sheepsong, geist wall, or soporific are the most useful. You probably don't need more than 3 of these for enmity, the last 3 are rather equivalent for enmity purposes. Among the traits, filling out the killer effects pld does not have, or appropriate for the fight is most useful. Cocoon is a wonderful buff though short duration. Refueling is only useful if you have no one giving you haste. Below could be done in a couple hours maybe a few days depending on playtime.
Goal would be Taint's suggestion with maybe Malefic Cudgel in there. ItemSet 364185 I use this and have tanked everything besides master trials. ItemSet 343978 |
