For the most part it seems FFXI runs like a slideshow (single-digit FPS) for most Windows 8.1 users, especially on laptops.
How is it on Windows 10? Any of the people who had a bad Windows 8/8.1 experience care to chime in? Same? Better? Worse?

Most* people actually are using 8/8.1 just fine. I'm using 8.1 and I have no problems running FFXI. Not bothered upgrading to 10 yet, not sure if I want to.

The game itself ran perfectly fine on one of my machines, but due to necessity to use direct input and the fact I use the DS4Windows paired with the DS4 I had nothing but input problems. That application isn't yet fixed to address this and workarounds have to be used to get it to work properly, something I wasn't willing to mess with every time I want to play.
In case someone's in that spot- http://forums.pcsx2.net/Thread-DS4Windows-J2K?pid=473439#pid473439 I was under the impression that the DS4 was a native direct input device, is this not the case?
I was under the impression FFXI was better played with a keyboard anyhow.

Just downloaded windows 10 and when you open FFXI, right after you press play, it prompts you to install DirectPlay otherwise the game shuts down. FFXI seems to be running fine, just 1 or 2 fps lower.
8 and above need directplay legacy features enabled

As for controller, I hope you got that fixed, but use SPC Reloaded + This dinput wrapper(dinput wrapper must be run constantly while in FFXI)..You're welcome.
I've retired from game but rather pass that on. There's more than one way to skin a yag here.

I can play this game well in windows 10, but in crowded area or where there is too much mobs/npc I get frame rate drop and lag.
Yet it plays ffxiv like a dream. I can only assume that its to do with the DirectX or the possible fact that I've got a dedicated vram and a shared ram in my graphics card, and the games programming might not account for the use of a shared and dedicated vram. |
