Nothing has changed from current optimal TP sets.

Thurandaut gloves are a good alternative in some sets though.

I think, at the moment, the sets are the same as they were pre-update. The only big new item that might throw a wrench into it is the Thurandaut Chapeau, since if the Dual Wield on it is good enough, you'll want to adjust your TP set accordingly to make up for the loss of Haste in that slot.

Unfortunately, it's only 3% so it doesn't appear to have a place in the best sets.

For me, it's possible to throw into my sets capping haste in other slots.

Ahh, so it's been unlocked on other servers then. On mine we weren't able to unlock any of the additional pieces to those sets, and instead unlocked the Coalition weapons instead. Should have assumed that other servers had managed to do so, but wasn't sure.

I think it was only Carbuncle that unlocked armor?

Asura got weapons too.

Did we test it on the NA side? I've only seen the 2ch post referencing another post I couldn't find. JPs are lax on citations x_x

Your generic ammo slot could be more useful.

Agreed, I use this for majority of things, some say use the Needle from Meebles, however I just don't like using it.

Prothescar's note on portus and rancor:

Quote:
****Portus Collar is not a direct replacement for Rancor Collar. On high level targets or situations where attack is low, Rancor Collar is superior to Portus

Been a couple months since I played, but I thought there was an ammo item that gave +attack that was better for TP than Cheruski Needle. It has hidden attack to it. I have it but I haven't been on FFXI so I forgot the name. I'll check my profile and update post in a minute

*edit*

Here ya go. It's the Smart Grenade

I would just use cheruski, The difference between the two has to be really marginal especially if you aren't capping fStr or dDex.

Rancor collar may deal More damage, however due to the defence change, I would not state Rancor as being superior especially with the DMG taken +??% Seems like you're asking to get smacked fast and hard from a well placed crit for 700 dmg in Aldoulin (some mobs evasion allows the generic set to shine)

On weaker targets I agree Rancor is superior, I personally only ws in it as I usually solo as BLU as apposed to a full party support.

The DMG taken is +10% when tonberry hate is capped. The thing with crit damage is the difference diminishes as your attack approaches 2.0 attack ratio (when your attack doubles the opponent's defense). One handed jobs can cap attack on fodder mobs fairly easily, so the crit doesn't add as much of a % to your damage (50% more when at cap). When attack is below cap, let's say at 1.0 attack ratio, the crit adds 1, therefore adding 100% to that attack's damage (before getting into pdif randomizations and other complications).

So, if you're soloing mobs that can hit you for 700, then obviously you wouldn't use this. But if you're in a competent group where hate is bouncing around, you should use it to maximize damage.

You forgot that 1h's ratio cap is 2.25!

And yes you are right, it is diminished as you increase your attack ratio. But even then critical hits benefit more to 1h than 2h because of the flat +1Ratio to crits. So you would really want more crit over double attack when mobs have higher def.

Basically if you have a competent healer and the targets can't do obscene damage moves to you then use Rancor Collar. If your soloing vs anything harder then a dynamic monster, tanking something big and nasty, or having a pants-on-head HELP I AM TRAPPED IN 2006 PLEASE SEND A TIME MACHINE healer, then don't use it.
