I dunno if it's still like this, but there was a benefit to having a linked XI character on your XIV account.. Can't remember what it was exactly, I think Hermes' shoes (which you DO want).

You get hermes sandals for having an XI account on your SE account when you register XIV.

Yea, I just read only for 30 minutes a day. Useful for camping NMs? if not I'm a say *** it not worth the risk
No there is no benefit for having a XI and XIV account that I'm aware of. I had hoped there would be too. There might have been, but not anymore. atm 10 bucks for 1 chara and basic game fee. But if you start now you can still make the 90 day bonus! Once 2.0 comes out the fee will jump to 15 dollars. With the bonus in effect it will stay 10 bucks for 8 characters per server. Take advantage while you can!!

Alright, I'll just make a new SE account then. I can't actually play the game till next month but I'll go ahead and make an account tonight, saves $60/year

Until March 2012 they had that campaign where if you had both accounts active you'd receive a rebate (adjustment) to your bill. For me it was -999 Crysta (-$9.99 USD) per month to have both games on the same SE account.
Sadly I noticed, without notification that I saw, that on my April 2012 bill that programme had been suspended and now they are charging full service fees for both games. ;_;
Which I suppose is understandable, given the state of FFXIV and how they need desperately to turn some positive revenue figures on it...so I really can't blame them for removing that promotion.

ummm I re-activated my FFXIV, and got 2 weeks free, and am still getting the -9.99 a month for both games, as of may billing period, might wanna call them
Edit: unless I caught it right at the end of that promotion, or maybe there is a timer once you start getting the deal for both ffxi/ffxiv, and it wears out at some point

Meh was too lazy to make a 2nd SE account so I went with it on that basis. Even with clipper, I have 0 strikes against my account, so I doubt I'd get anymore than a temp for a first offense.

The way the discount works is that you get it for the first 3 months only while both accounts are active (i.e. xiv account must be active when xi is getting billed,) and the $ is discounted from your xi bill.
Also Hermes Shoes suck. They only work for 30 mins every 24 hours and give you quickening, so if you get hit by something you lose the effect until you lose aggro... and your quickening timer keeps counting down. They're ok for when you first start the game so you can run and hit the Aetheryte/gates to unlock them.

Well, if you ever sell your FFXI account, you will lose your XIV account.
lol 1 lv 90 emp mnk main account ain't worth ***anyways. No intentions of selling even when I quit.
Also, kinda funny that people who swore off XIV because they can't stand SE and MMOs, are still going to play it, lol.

Eh, if you are going to not play anymore at somepoint, might as well just sell it off than keep it. Not like it does you any good just being inactive.
