Having physically camped an HNM is irrelevant, it's easy to see what the end results would be because they've already happened before. If HNM's were popped then people would shift their camping from the HNM to the mobs that drop the pop item. Even if quite a few mobs dropped the pop item, HNMLS's would adapt and monopolize, anyways. I mean, for mobs that have day+ long spawns people still find a way to camp them, so what would changing the pop behavior really do? So they have to send a few more people out to farm for the pop item...where there's a will there's a way.
Look at the ACP ***...granted it's died down a lot since everyone has pretty much done it at this point, but the first 3 days were ridiculous trying to get the items in Jugner, Meriphitaud, and Passhhow. Since it's a one time only thing, demand died down pretty quick...but HNM's are popular enough, and the rewards are in demand enough that I seriously doubt that it would ever ramp down significantly. End result would be, since people aren't monopolizing one specific thing anymore, they'd just monopolize a whole zone. Shitty, I agree...but I'd rather not have a whole zone get shut down by HNM Pop Item farmers.
Like previously said by someone else, and I agreed with previously, I think a good way to "fix" this problem would be to have the items be procured another way as well...BCNM, KSNM, ISNM, ANNM, **NM, whatever. The only caveat to that would be that they would have to have the mob be similar in difficulty, and have similar time restrictions as far as repeat runs and drop rates, etc as the camped mob to make it be fair to those that still wish to camp...hell, it might even lessen demand somewhat FOR people camping.
