I was banned from the official PSU forums. Back when it was fun. Now that they put the serious hammer on things (sorta like what they did here), people got banned left and right.
I loved PSO back in the day. The stuff I've seen of PSO2 have me absolutely drooling...

one of the things that really bugged me with PSU was the lack of updates compared to the japanese version kinda hoping it will just be a global thing..

I played JP version a bit, tried US/EU version as well at release a few months ago.
It's way too complex for a new player, too many systems have been added one over the other with time and it's hard to keep track of them all, not all make sense anymore, there's not much streamlining and the way the game moves from "open" to "instancing" can be confusing, even for players coming from PSO and PSU.
I don't think there it makes much sense to start PSO2 now with PSO2 New Genesis (completely new game, not an "expansion") behind the corner.
If anyone wanted to start PSO2 now I'd just suggest them to wait a bit more until PSO2NG is released.

I have a friend who's a big Sega geek and he wanted me and a bunch of others to try it. This actually happens to be the only friend of mine I've ever been able to convince to so much as try Final Fantasy XI lol. There were a bunch of things that I liked and we did have some fun, but it wasn't really for me.
I am, however, looking forward to the visual overhaul. I'll probably give it another try just for fun then.

There is plenty of reason to start now. Considering emotes, some gear, outfits and your characters can switch between the games. I say this because I've been told some things may not like some specific emotes and gear may become harder to obtain later on. We'll see

Online games are great, but they always loom over me with a feeling of FOMO. And if I'm subscribed to one (in this case, XI) then I also get the feeling that I'm wasting my money by playing other games lol
