It's an older 32-bit power edge with 2 xeon 3.33Ghz processors. Got 4 racks for dirt cheap, have swappable SCSI (163GB) 2 per rack, 8GB memory. So I would need to figure out what to do with them but I am wondering if I can get WIN2000 Server and throw FFXI on it and make a private server. 2008 would be better, and no 8gb machine is running 32bit unless the operator was a moron. Jelly on the racks, had to buy mine from amazon. Unless you mean you got 4 blades for dirt cheap, then that's a different story. Sorry for the late reply, been busy and also been messing around with BLU on FFXIV to relax from the madness. So the racks are older, 32bit only, will not do 64bit. USB is USB1, so no go on the drives. They have 4 SCSI 163GB hot swaps on each rack, so space isn't an issue. I find it frustrating and amusing trying to get older tech stuff to work right. Tend to learn more about stuff if you don't mind breaking it or reinstall different OS on it. Not exactly sure what I want to do with these Dell server racks. They do get hot (7 internal fans) and they are loud...very loud but not because of dirty shitty fans. Mentioned to a friend I was messing around with servers, guess I am also inheriting an old HP proliant server. What a week though, helped several friends get laptops because they were going back to college, had to trade up on a few of those but think I got everyone decent newer laptops, so yay on that. Racks don't take memory, so I have no idea what you're talking about. This is a rack: Nothing with more than 4gb of ram is only 32bit, what make/model are the servers? edit: If you're machines are too old to support 64bit quite frankly you should just recycle them as they're garbage and not worth the energy it takes to run them/cool them. Ordered a 512GB Note 9. O boy.

It'll go to 12GB on a 32-bit system because of this, it's like duplicating itself rather than only a 2 bank system like 32-bits do. My servers were the later versions, the 3.33Ghz Xeons, it's just a setup kind of PAE but not really, but it's to prevent failing ECC memory. Can get up to 64gb on enterprise and datacenter, still if your hardware is that old it's not worth it and probably wouldn't have driver support. Still didn't explain what the hardware is. Your first paragraph there makes no sense. |
