If you're a PVP fanatic it is. But I never understood the point of a PVP game that comes down to "Who got the best geerz dawg" instead of Who actually plays better. That's why I like FFXI's PVE focus, artfully crafted challenges, pitting the player(s) against a stronger opponent who must be overcome with cunning and cooperation.

The gear part happens in FF too lol. WoWs PvP balance is shitty atm, Mages and Locks are so OP. Not all WoW's raids are DPS races.

Saying "WoW is good" in a FFXI forum is like:

saying "wow, Susan Boyle is hot" in a Maxim forum, or

saying "Sarah Palin is the BEST!" in a liberal political forum.

Don't bring that WoW ***in here. Go back to Candy Land.

FFXI isn't a PVP oriented MMO. If you think WoW Isn't, you're a complete and utter Moron, If they shut down PVP, 93% of their Client Base would quit, no questions asked. If FFXI's PVP shut down, 93% of the population wouldn't even know.

All of WoW's Raids really aren't a DPS race, but the retards pretty much turn it into one, because wiping the guild just to see "Teh sweet numbahz" Is more important than actually succeeding. And say what you want, the Retard to Quality Player ratio in WoW is 1600:1. And most of the "1" are in Star or some other obscenely dedicated Raid Guild with impossible recruitment requirements (IE, already have the gear they are getting, so moot point, amirite?!).

But Let's not derail this topic The WoW/FFXI (Since those are the only two different MMO's available right now) debate comes down to if you prefer PVP or PVE, I was thankful to hear the Dev's blow off PVP focus (Though I fully support there being an inclusion of Player Versus Player) in FFXIV. If they hold true to that, it shows their dedication to create the game they want. And that's really the only way to make a game. Again, a parallel to "real" art (Games are real art, MMO's included) being that the *** trained game designers, and not the baaawing sheep majority create THEIR vision, and hope that the retard count is low enough to turn profit. When you allow 'popular' as the root of your design, you wind up with total crap at the end. Popular Opinions are good to draw inspiration from, but only the designers have the training to make the tough calls that may seem absurd to someone with no knowledge of just how complicated designing a game (and multiply that a thousandfold for MMO) really is.

I have always been hoping for an FFXIV delay, for a few reasons. One as I stated before, was the Combat felt too sluggish for the whole single chacter/player approach. Another, fairly selfishly, was wanting to experience all the new 76-99 content in FFXI. There's still the chance FFXIV could just not "Click" for me, but it's earned a try just by it's character progression system alone.

Well... I'm not sure if I'm the only one who feels like this... But I'm kind of relieved... Because I'm not completely done with FF XI's storyline/missions yet...

I'd like to be able to quit FF XI before embarking on XIV 100%, I just don't feel ready for the new relationship yet. Playing both at once and "living" doesn't seem like a good idea.

U gettin trolled. The only way to defuse the troll is with intelligent, non-emotional responses. Like it or not WoW is going to have an impact on EVERY MMO from here on out, just like Everquest and Ultima Online before it.

No game really makes it past the "Open public Beta" anymore, since the age of the 95% Broadband subscription rate, getting a retail product out faster and fixing issues later is the way to go. When was the last time a "Complete" game was released? Shadow of the Colossus?

Worst thing they could to is bring a bug filled game to the market, they should take there time b/c the thing that kills MMO's is ppl talking about how bad it is/was at launch. We have seen it many times with Warhammer, Age of Conan, and Aion, and many others... tons of ppl played them when they first came out, and 70-80% of the ppl playing them complained that they were too buggy, or low content, and most stoped playing 3 months later, and they will tell anyone that asks about them that there not good games, even tho alot of the bugs, and low content problems have been solved.

Don't take things so seriously :) This is FFXIah.com forums, after all.

No doubt WoW will have an impact on future production of RPGs. I don't like that, and I don't dislike that. I actually don't care!

My point was (feeble attempt at humor aside) that saying "WoW is good" in a FFXI forum is like shouting into a pillow underwater.

SE projected that FFXIV would be released in 2011 when they first announced the 3 updates planned for 2010. Last update for FFXI is in late 2010 followed, sometime, by FFXIV.

Indeed, WoW defines the MMO genre and is the benchmark for all MMO to be compared to.

I still hate it though just because it's not Final Fantasy >_>

FFXIV is going to be simultaneous release in all regions. Unless that plan suddenly changed from the last 20 interviews I've read.

This is my shocked face: -_-

(Pretty sure I called this one way back when we found out the "beta signups" were actually "pre-alpha signups.")

As far as WoW is concerned, I agree that saying WoW is "good" on a FF11 forum is pretty troll-ish. Then again, I also feel FF11 players thinking they can dismiss the game and/or its effect on the market, because they happen to not like it, is short-sighted and self-centered.

You better believe every designer and executive at Square is studying WoW extensively in an effort to duplicate its success. Everything about WoW is ruthlessly calculated to be successful -- even the goofy art direction, which is done intentionally because it sets the playable hardware requirements low enough to appeal to the mass market.

In their defense, GMail was in "beta" for something like six years.

This isn't the companies' fault: it's shifting consumer expectations. Most users now think the word "beta" means the product should be "done" and needs to simply be stress tested.

Wow is like every other generic MMO.

It's the busiest generic MMO, but hardly brings anything new to the table. Half the emotes and dances are ported straight from Guild Wars lol.

QFT.

I think far too often people get on the "Hate WoW" bandwagon just because so many others are on it. While the game is extremely well designed (notice i said designed, not executed) I think I speak for most people when I say it's the hand-holding gameplay that keeps everyone away from it. Hopefully this is the distinction most people are making, because from a design standpoint it's exceptional.

Personally, I won't say WoW is bad but I enjoy PVE-only type MMOs because when you have PVP it becomes all about who's the best in PVP and not what you can accomplish as a group since the PVE content is usually pretty easy in general. FFXI is more difficult in general (higher learning curve and more difficult boss fights) but of course isn't that hard to learn if you have half a brain and can do some research. They're two entirely different games aimed at different people, have entirely different battle systems and WoW is more solo friendly for people with less time. There's no point in comparing them and they both have strong and weak points.

I was quite interested in Wow when I took a break from FFXI, I played it and realised every quest at the beginning was "Kill X <monter> and earn Y <reward>"

After I did about 5-6 of these I got incredibly bored and realised that it felt like Runescape with a monthly fee. Then I heard the new Death knight or w/e it's called, and the fact that it starts at level 50 or some ***, and the justification given was "It would be overpowered at level 1"

wat.

Not all delays make a game good, I waited 10 years for the release of Fallout 3, and my expectations were utterly destroyed, the game was buggy as hell, I might as well have been playing Oblivion, the over-all storyline was no wheres near attached to the End-of-the-world feel that the other games produced, My game was so modded on PC that I finally had something that felt like Fo3, but then it just still wasn't enough, Bethesda + Player Expectations = Ruins.

And I feel the same way with Square-enix + Player expectations.
