I'm just curious after a long heated discussion as to why FFXI shouldn't be updated "graphically" because it will hinder 1/3 of the market and force them to upgrade to a new system. So my question is.

The other problem isn't just the PS2 users, but the "upgrade" itself. The art for FF was designed for PS2... it wasn't created at a higher fidelity and then downgraded to fit. Meaning they would have to essentially recreate all the art in the game from scratch.
Given that artwork makes up half or more of an MMO's development budget, we're talking millions and millions of dollars on SE's part.

Yes :) and this is why FFXIV is coming out this is the main reason they did not port ps2 --> ps3. Sure you can play ff11 on the ps3 but it still the ps2 version of the game.
A lot of ppl was asking for a ps3 port so just trying to make ff11 work on ps3 and remake everything is just as good as making a new game.
This is why final fantasy xiv is your Final fantasy game port for ps3.

another good reason. ugh its really hard trying to convince someone as to why FFXI shouldn't have a graphic update. My ls mate was basically saying...if you don't play on ps3 or pc, then you're f***ed. and shouldn't play. =.= /le'sigh

360 has so many issues when it comes to the game I'd totally stick with PS2 too.
I play on all 3 systems, mainly PC and PS2 I prefer PC and PS2 over 360.
The only issue 360 has with the game is freezing at the end of Besiged. I didn't have any other issues.
I'd still be using the PS2 if the Hard Drive hadn't died.

I've had to reinstall FF over 5 times cause of the game crashing and not working; not even the ipod trick worked. Friend had to reinstall too after a 3117 error
I used PS2 for a few years (I play on PC now)... There's nothing wrong with it, but the fact that one has to buy the HDD for the system (which doesn't come with one traditionally) is an understandable turn-off.
I play mostly on ps2, pc sometimes, I only play on 360 when im farming boring stuff for streaming music from my pc.
They should have still have brought out a ps3 version of the game... Even if it did look just like the ps2 version or maybe the PC version. I have a PS2 under my television ONLY for ffxi. In one way its annoying but then again, would you really wanna keep your ps3 on all day while you're bazaaring AFK?

this is probably going to necro bump but i was actually wondering this as well though mostly due to the fact that the fan in my ps2 died/isn't working w/e.
In all honesty I am doing everything I can think off to NOT go through the pain of re-installing ffxi on another ps2 (which I have but because of some retardedness on sony's part I'd have to format the HDD and reinstall ffxi)
Installing ffxi once back in '04(?) on dial-up was enough to put me off installation ever again. Thus, back into PS2 transplant surgery I go.

I only have ffxi on my ps3 to by pass the stupid CC auth site thing. Hasnt failed me yet lol. and with 2 accounts i can update both at the same time.
