Coming Back (2013)

Decided to try FFXI again after leaving 4 years ago and was wondering what servers have players doing things in the early EST hours? I normally work 2nd shift with a few 3rd shifts here and there so playing early EST hours with people is what I am looking for. Even if the groups are EU or the like that doesn't matter to me just looking for people to play with.

Odin and Asura are your best bets.
Odin has a sizeable Japanese playerbase.
Asura has a bunch of trolls and shout drama.

They are the two largest servers.
I think Bahamut was the third largest... but the difference is allegedly a sharp drop after Asura and Odin.

Asura is trash city and full of a bunch of scrubs. It's the bandwagon server, bunch of snitches there.

just got back myself and HOLY SMOKES! lots of very cool much desired changes... that should of happened MUCH sooner! i mean. mounts are badass. and the fact i can use them in qufim, B-glacer and many other zones normally not able to be ridden in are NICE! just all these comfort additions are wonderful. but i'm SOOO far behind on gear i'm in that area of too weak to be worthwhile to the point your useless in end-game events, but you need these end-game events to get the gear needed to be at least a decent challenge... its a bit of the classic catch 22 mess... oh well. ill just work on an empy/mythic and see how that goes.

I mean time traveling is cool, but surely there are better years to chose!

I wouldn't transfer to Asura if that was the last active server in the game.

Yeah gear is one thing I am worried about. The 2013 was meant to say that was when I left. As far as combat goes is it still 1hour gather and wait for everyone for a 30 second burn or is strategy and skill chains magic burst back?

Welcome back lot! Long time no see.
Asura isn't as bad as they are saying lol. Different strats for different mobs but yes magic burst is back. Most fights are time limited to 15 min though. (They don't go that long)

Lot of people pushing the Asura is trash bit. I have exactly one person on my blacklist, and since it's Chyula, a number of you can understand why. Server is active, things are just about constantly happening and we have a wonderful conversation in yells a few times a day.

Cool I'm downloading the clients and all that good stuff with updates so I will have decide soon on the server. So thank you everyone.
