A topic just for fun. If you could make a custom boss battle, what would you want to see?

Here are a few ground rules for it:
1: It has to be something new or unique- not just an upped version of already implemented battle.
2: Try to use base creatures that are already in the game- don't pit us against Cthulhu(Though I guess there are Soulflayers...).
3: You have to be able to win the battle- though that doesn't mean it has to be easy.
4: Don't make it about obtaining anything specific, this is about the battle not the reward!
5: If you can come up with a gimmick for the fight- use it! The less of a straight fight it is the better!
6: Keep in mind that this is just for fun!

Let's see what you can come up with! I'll put mine down below to keep this post short.

You are fighting a named Lich(Corse type Mob), and it's Phylactery.
The way to win the fight is to destroy the Phylactery.

You are in a large chamber with 5 offshooting paths, which lead to smaller chambers.

The Lich has to be killed multiple times to win the battle. Every time you kill him he disappears and his Phylactery(A Magic Pot) spawns within one of the smaller chambers(you have to run around to find it).

The Phylactery spawns with 100% HP, and when you get close to it, it summons 5 Phylactery Guardians to protect it. Each time a Guardian is summoned it lowers the Phylactery's HP by ~2%. The Phylactery is resistant to all types of damage(damage cap 50~100?).

After a certain amount of time has passed(~1 minute?), it despawns with the Guardians and the Lich is resurrected back at 100% HP. Every time Lich is resurrected, the [Phylactery] loses [~10%] of it's HP.

Every time you defeat the Lich the Phylactery can spawn in a different room.

The Phylactery spawns a new type of Phylactery Guardian the next wave every time you kill one. Each new type of Phylactery Guardian is stronger than the last.
1st Wave: (Melee) Skeleton x5
2nd Wave: (Magic) Skeleton x5
3rd Wave: Shadow x5
4th Wave: Ghost x5
5th Wave: Dullahan x5
Example: If you only kill 3/5 (Melee) Skeletons of wave 1, you'll end up facing 2 (Melee) Skeletons and 3 (Magic) Skeletons, and the Phylactery only loses 6% of it's HP- equal to summoning 3 new Phylactery Guardians.

Example of how the Resurrection/Summoning will affect the Phylactery's HP:
Lich - Phylactery @100%HP
5x Guardian - Phylactery @90%HP
Lich - Phylactery @~80%HP
5x Guardian - Phylactery @~70%HP
Lich - Phylactery @~60%HP
5x Guardian - Phylactery @~50%HP
Lich - Phylactery @~40%HP
5x Guardian - Phylactery @~30%HP
Lich - Phylactery @~20%HP
5x Guardian - Phylactery @10%HP

Battle Trick:
If you can deal enough damage to the Phylactery, you could skip a wave of the Phylactery Guardians and potentially even a resurrection of the Lich.

I would say that the Lich and the Phylactery Guardians have access to all of the special abilities that their Famliy can use, though I would lock out the AoE charms and probably not give the Lich access to Death- for balance reasons.

Bunny battle. Has standard rabbit/hare attacks. Grows in size (like bomb/cluster monsters) based on damage taken. Gains increasing damage and evasion throughout the fight. Spawns baby rabbits that attack the highest magic damage dealer. (Can be slept). Each subsequent defeated wave of baby rabbits also grow in size, damage and health. ~all monsters have access to perfect dodge and blood weapon.

Gimmicks~ baby rabbits can be charmed but will deal 0 damage to the boss. Boss only spawns babies based on one's defeated. Using wild carrot near the boss lowers evasion. And successful use of steal prevents perfect dodge

How about fights against the old relic owners... the shadowy NPCs who give their relics to you. Maybe a new ADL fight who summons the relic owners from their dynamis-y graves. To pop the NM you need 1 of each relic in the alliance and the gimmick is you cant fight the summoned mob with their corresponding relic. Obviously every relic would have to be in the battlefield but you would have to unequip it when your relic mob was summoned. Using the relic would give the mob more abilities or something.

Random player in your alliance gets charmed, grows in size and stats and must be killed.

I like koda's idea but without requiring relics.

Trusts prove SE could make reasonably intelligent bosses. I wonder if SE could reverse an enmity system where players were forced to attack the tank npc til a dps or healer pulls hate.

Three gears stand idle on colored pillars in the distance. 3 orbs stand idle in the room characters spawn in. One red, one purple and one blue, each matching one pillar. The red orb does not attack and only takes physical damage. The purple orb does not attack and only takes magic damage. The blue orb takes no damage, but attacks in AoE whoever engages with it.

As the orbs take damage or deal damage (more damage dealt means it moves faster), the pillars in the distance slowly descend. When they reach the bottom, the gear standing idle on it leaves and idles on a platform out of reach. If it stands idle there for too long, it will enter the room and begin attacking, dealing physical, magical or unaspected damage. It has no hate table and hits very hard. This is a wipe scenario.

If however, another gear joins it, it will combine with it and the timer will reset. When all 3 join together, it will idle for 20 seconds, then attack.

Its parameters are determined by how fast each pillar descended. For example, if the physical pillar descended faster than the magic pillar, then the final boss will take less physical damage, but deal high physical damage. If the magic pillar descended faster than the physical pillar, then it will take less magic damage and deal high magic damage. The defense pillar determines how much health and how often Restoral will heal the boss (it's on a timer rather than being random or based on TP).

Upon defeating the combined gears, the path to the pillars unlocks and one new gear spawns on each pillar. Upon any taking damage, they begin rising. The red pillar's gear deals high physical damage but takes extra skillchain damage. The purple pillar's gear deals high magic damage but takes extra magic burst damage. The blue pillar's gear deals and takes no damage, but it's health is slowly declining and can be healed, but not buffed.

As the pillars reach the ceiling, ports open allowing the pillars to extend into another room. In the middle of the 3 pillars, an Acrolith stands waiting for the pillars to finish their rise.

The Acrolith absorbs the bodies of the gears, defeated or not. Unhealed health on the blue gear will grant the acrolith DT- proportional to the total HP on the blue gear. If the blue gear died, DT will be -90%, if it was at 100%, DT will be +10%. Remaining health on the red gear directly increases physical damage dealt by Sinker Drill and Dire Straight. If the red gear has 100% health, these will deal 99999 damage. Remaining health on the purple gear directly increases magic damage by Earthshatter and Detonating Grip (which both now deal magic damage). If the purple gear has 100% health, these will deal 99999 damage. A dead purple and red gear make these moves incredibly manageable.

At 50% the Acrolith will use a 1hr move depending on which gear died first or had less health. If the Blue gear died, the Acrolith will use Benediction. If the Red gear died first or had less health, the Acrolith will use Mighty Strikes then spam physical moves for 30 seconds. If the blue gear died first or had less health, the Acrolith will use Overdrive and spam magic moves.

At 10%, 3 bombs will spawn and begin walking slowly towards the Acrolith. The Acrolith will begin counting down. If the bombs reach the Acrolith before it reaches 0%, they will explode dealing massive damage in AoE. This is a wipe scenario.

A perfect setup for this fight would be equal magic and physical damage and require both a magic tank and a physical tank, and healers to focus them as well as the gear. It rewards coordination between the team members and punishes not performing well with each other. It also allows for weaknesses in the team to shift to others on the fly if the group is coordinated.

A smart boss that learns from previous strategies. It gains a unique buff based on the key aspects of the previous successful player victory.

So let's say a group won by stun-locking, next fight it will be immune to stun untile someone beats it again and then it will gain a new type of buff!

Besides the obvious problems with figuring out what a strategy is in terms of machine learning, the other problem is win-trading. If for example one team uses all magic damage, then next time it's immune to magic damage, another team could be waiting by to do physical damage. They could then trade off back and forth.

To solve this, I would propose that certain categories are proportionally increased or decreased for each win. For example, if magic damage is the primary damage source on one win, on the next spawn, it becomes 10% more resistant and has 10% more MDB, but becomes 10% less evasive and has 10% less defense. Similar increases and decreases occur if physical damage is the primary damage source. If its physical damage is heavily resisted with high defense or PDT, then it will get stronger physically.

On a loss, every category will degrade by a %.

This way you can use the same strategy for a while, but it'll become harder and harder to maintain. Eventually you'll have to switch it up

A Fomor BRD NM that brings you nightmares similar to the Minstrel's Ballad BRD from XIV. The fight itself would work similar to PW where he would disappear and reappear in different forms throughout the fight. The key difference is that players will be level synced multiple times throughout the fight. The BRD will give out dialogue based to remind you of "the days of old" and sync you accordingly. You would only need to defeat him three times to make the fight less tiresom but the level syncs would be random Some examples may be ...

lvl 15 Gob NM w/ crab/damselfly familiar

lvl 30 Mandragora NM

lvl 50 Crawler, Wight, and bomb trio

lvl 60 Random Avatar fight

lvl 70 Maat

lvl 75 Random Sky god

lvl 85 Random Abyssea boss

I love this. I absolutely hate Level Sync, though. What if they were powered up to your level, or even better, drastically exaggerated in difficulty, just like the Minstrel's fights in 14.

A gobby was never really hard, just harder than you had ever seen before. Telling the tale, the bard embellishes elements, like how big he was, how hard and fast he attacked, how he threw out a bomb the size of your whole body. "His eyes glowed with fury, reached into his bag and drew out the biggest bomb you'll ever see. He lobbed it high into the air, and as it crashed down, it crushed the taru white mage before exploding. We will always remember you Xtarusrulex."

Lol I like this idea too.

-Mandy uses Dream Flower sleep that lasts for 2 hours
-Party member gets a giant *Red dot of death* that terrorizes him with an embellished disconnect symbol over his head
-Maat uses Asuran Fists 5 times in a row.
-A bunch of npc afk players spawn while fighting an Abyssea mobs while you do all of the work.

Honestly Wrathare also sounds like something a FFXI player came up with as a joke:
"Lol, what if it's a bunny but that's got like en-death and triple attacks like all the time. Oh! And he spams Whirl Claws so you can't blink tank it. And Whirl Claws resets hate.
Yeah, and let's make it so it's like impossible to slow, blind, or paralyze it."

180s 100% Slow
High Potency Paralyze
180s Petrify
120s Terror

I'd refuse to fight them and just let them kill me and then go cry. Especially the original Mandau owner.. have you read his last entry in his journal?

A fight vs Mayakov, but you never have to draw your weapon. Rather, you need to use /dance1-4 and other emotes and you win by chaining a sweeter combination than he did, so that you serve him.

Your party enters an icy battlefield.

On the other side of the field a Dark Knight approaches you.
He /bow emotes and begins saying things that sound like Papa Roach lyrics.
You see the Dark Knight has a group of people behind him, apparently ready to support him at a moments notice.
When the Dark Knight is at 5%, someone in your party hits a patch of ice and slides a few yalms mid-animation.
At this point the Dark Knight becomes enraged, absorbs all the gil from the people who were behind him, and deletes himself.
