about to return, attempting to find a home for this brand new char and was wondering if anyone could recommend a server/ls. granted i know the state of the game and all, but some english crowd is better than a sparse one with more jp and being lonely.

Asura definitely very populated and busy (there is several ls on Asura forum recruiting returning player, etc as well). Bahamut and Odin have decent population as well. Good luck on your search for a new server.
