My suggestion would be to look into Records of Eminence and complete the tutorial questlines for it. That will give you a bunch of coupons you can use to buy starter gear.

Also, look into the Rhapsodies of Vanadiel... storyline. Start working on it and make it a priority. The bonuses it provides will help you catch up much more quickly.
