what are the current server player totals nowadays..or most populated server
incoming floods of "Go to Asura" followed by lots of Asuran players like "No! We're closed!"
Though that's just the general consensus I've seen the last year or so. Fenrir is JP heavy, but lately has been busier during NA time. Dunno if that'll last or not though.

Phoenix is pretty terrible as far as shout groups go, just not a lot of activity. That said, if you find a good ls it makes no difference. There are several NA ls's doing stuff like Kirin/WoC as well as Reisen T3/HELMs and I'd imagine it's similar on every other server. Ls's just have 0 interest in shouting as most people capable of handling content of this magnitude are already in one of these ls's and won't bother going with unfamiliar people, leaving people who are just reaching for content without actually being up to par for said content.
TLDR: Basically it's about finding the right ls, not the right server. Good luck though.

I'm shocked SE hasn't closed Asura to transfers.
If you're wanting to be on a heavily populated server then yeah, Asura is the place. But be warned, you need thick skin. But if you're into being made fun of and/or being rejected/kicked from parties & events because you or your gear are deemed "gimp", then by all means knock yourself out.
But if you're looking for a more mid-sized server (not too packed) Shiva and Bahamut are decent servers.
And if you are of the pet job persuasion, Shiva & Quetzalcoatl are the places to be, though Quetz has a very low population as far as NA players go.

But if you're looking for a more mid-sized server (not too packed) Shiva and Bahamut are decent servers.
And if you are of the pet job persuasion, Shiva & Quetzalcoatl are the places to be, though Quetz has a very low population as far as NA players go.
Half of which number? 3000? That's still 1500 during peak times.
There are other servers who struggle to break 400 during peak hours. And then there's the people who go and ask "my server ded where I go?" And Asurans, such as yourself, sweep in and tell 'Em to go to Asura, thus compounding the discrepancy further.
That's why Asura needs to be closed to server transfers. Give other servers a chance.

I was forced to spend a week on Asura after an attempted hacking of my account back in the day (2006 or so timeframe) It had gotten transferred to Asura (on my dime) before I was able to get back onto my account and change the password to prevent the hacker from getting back into it to clean it out. Thankfully, a GM was able to move me back home in a week instead of having to wait 3 months. I'll put it to you this way, and as bluntly as I can possibly say, it was the absolute worst week of my FFXI playing experience. And based on your sarcastic response to my post, Kaitaru, things seem to have not changed at all. Thank you very much for proving my point.
If u are a good geared player without a group, asura is your place to be as there is numerous pick up groups. Or form your own.
If u are a returning veteran or new player, asura is also the place to be. Crucial Shouts that are non existence in other servers such as vagary are alive here. The first skipping stone gears such as alluvion skirmish gears, there's shouts for that as well.
If you have friends or you have a group of 3-5 then it's best to stay in your server unless they all transfering with you.

Your server should be closed and merged with the other less successful servers. Your argument for closing transfers to asura has no basis. Sorry you don't want to move and don't like where you are enough.

Asura is the Angriest Server. Its a moniker it earned a long time ago. Tho I like to think it has mellowed out to Grumpiest Server nowadays.

I get your point of view and that you wanna to repopulate your own server. The OP is asking for the most active servers though and Asura is at the top, I'd suggest people to move there over the other sleepy servers. It's not secret that we have a few dead servers out there and I've since changed my stance on server merger and feel SE should do it at this point. It might cause some congestion in certain areas, but I personally think we have too many servers at this point.

They need to get the merger over with. I'm not really sure what they're really waiting for anymore. Not sure what the population looks like these days as I don't play much anymore but honestly, better to just get it out the way. As much as I hate to say it, Asura wins at this point.

Asura is horrible (in my opinion only), most are trash minus Cbb's LS and a few others. If people even feel slightly threatened that they're better than you, they panic. Bunch of noobs and snitchs for people who use Clipper, come to Lakshmi and clip all you want no one cares/75% of the server is afk lol. Like mentioned above, it's about the LS you find and the people you play with, not the server. With mules/few good group of friends, everything can currently be killed in this game with a max of 10 and even that's pushing it (with the right setup). While I was on Asura for a short time, I hated it. Don't go there, you have been warned!
