So because you spent ten years killing the same monster over and over it's justified, despite the guy next to you going 1/1? By that logic because I went 1/1 on D ring that I am plagued with absolutely no satisfaction? That's actually true. Dr. B. F. Skinner demonstrated this with a series of experiments that resulted in the creation of the infamous "Skinners Box". https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operant_conditioning_chamber If an action always has the same result / reward then the subject quickly becomes bored of that action. If that same action has a pseudo-random result / reward, the subject will frantically engage in that action and receive a greater amount of stimulation from it. The most random the reward rate, the greater the level of stimulation. This is what makes gambling so addictive. What Kenrusai and others of his ilk are missing is the feeling of accomplishment by winning at a completely random reward. Getting that item from an HNM was, to them, like winning the lottery, pure euphoria at a set of random numbers resulting in their ticket being a winner, and not from any actual skill based event. A predictable skill based reward system simply does not produce the same levels of brain stimulation as a random reward system. So I guess my advice to them would be to never go near a casino or gambling hall. I certainly can't argue the science, and I can't say I didn't fall prey to it as well. I certainly did. But after a while the random reward system itself became predictable and thus lost its intended effect. That's what happened to me anyway. no one miss mpking ppl, hold forced pop nm in abyssea and any other *** action? i miss being a *** and directly affect other ppl in vanadiel world god dammit
I miss when people gave a spit about helping others instead of only caring about themselves.
Friend1: "man I'm working so hard to get Alex for my only mythic." Friend2: "sorry I can't help I need all the Alex for my 6th mythic." Friend1: "No worries, what do you need help with?" Friend2: "Nothing since you have a job and a life outside of this game and don't have all 22 jobs leveled and geared." Friend1: "Ouch." but also theres those time where u tell same ppl same exact ***like 5time n still repeat same mistake, remind me of that lyric: help me to help you

saeval (sp?) states: in part...
And none of those were challenging. People face rolled them all the time. Nothing those did (PW after patch) required any sort of skill. NM's now are far more powerful with much deadlier TP moves and access to a wide variety of ways to give you a bad day, and we still face roll. This is all because "difficulty" in FFXI is just player stat A vs monster stat B. If monster stat B is higher then player state A, then it's "hard", if player can get stat A higher then monster stat B, then it's "easy". And if player can get multiple stats above the monsters, then it's "face roll" easy. _______________ no one is disagreeing with STAT A vs STAT B difficulty back in the day... the "difficulty" came from not having the "uber" resources needed to make player stats > mob stats... I was on old school Garuda and if you were able to dedicate your life to one of the 24 hour ls.. ie Sapere Aude or EDI, ffxi life was easy.. however if you had a job, school, other interests and had to "make do" when you did log in.. that was where the "difficulty" came into play. Just cuz you knew the optimal party included pld rdm brd blm war mnk or wutever to do your mission/nm., that knowledge didn't help if only war war thf smn main heal blm were around.... |
