Where Will You Be When They Turn The Servers Off?

If they do that is ;)

I've been playing the game for 10+ years and have been thinking about this for a while now.

It came to the forefront with the last announcement that there will be no new content after RoV and that RoV will be the final hurrah for FFXI.

So; where will you want to leave your character when/if they turn the servers off?

I plan to take a final grand tour of the game and visit some of my favorite places; try to catch a rainbow of La Theine, go for a shower in blue blade falls, take a manaclipper from bibiki, take the ferry from selbina to mhaura at night (and hope for pirate attack,)take some photos of the hall of the gods...

But I plan on leaving Irma up in the hot springs at Horlais Peak. Don my very first summer swimsuit and just sit in the pool as the server shut down warnings count down.

I remember doing my key hunt up there with my long dead LS and after we finally got all the keys we needed for people we ended up at the hot pool and for no reason other then we were happy to be there we all put on swimming gear (it was just after summer event) and just chatted and RP'ed for a coup[le of hours.

This has always been a fond memory for me :)

Lufaise Meadows has always been my favourite area since it's introduction, so I'll probably hang around there..

I was just curious. This game probably has a few more years in it as a free to play/micro-transaction mobile game. But damned if I'll be playing it them :lol:

I never quit, just.... take a break, quitting would mean deleting my toon, I will let SE do that for me when the time comes.

I plan to keep doing random stuff until there is not enough people to justify the costs, then it'll be turned off after a few months notification head of time. That being said.


They never said that. People keep reading into their press announcement and inserting words into SEs mouth. They said RoV would be the last major content and as such they want to make it big. They never said they wouldn't put out anything ever again, merely that there wouldn't be anymore updates that require major developer resources. No more new zones, new monster models, new NPC or item models and such. There is still a large amount of older preexisting content, especially before level 99, that could be made relevant or entertaining again with little developer effort.

I'll go back to the debug zone to play /random with other GMs to decide who's going to get the last donut, or who's taking care of the news upload.

And didn't, they didn't really...get it?

In the Alchemy Guild , where the struggle was always real.

If this ever did happen, I think I'd just let it shut down on me during whatever I was doing at that time.

Certain areas are memorable to me, and sometimes I think "why?", and it's they have differing origins that make them unforgettable. So instead of going to some place I already liked for some reason, a new spot would be monumental, because "that's where I was at when the servers shut down."

...if I was in this scenario though, as I'm posting this I can't help but picture myself at the top of The Boyahda Tree where Steelshells, lol. Probably because "that's where I was at when FFXI was shut down after the earthquake," a similar circumstance. Also an example of why and how some place was made memorable to me.
