Been Out Of The Loop. Is The Game Ending?

Was there some sort of official announcement that the game will be shut down? Or won't receive any more updates or something?

not entirely announced, just doomsayers. They are terminating xbox and ps2 support March of next year. They are doing one final update in November then they said only small/balance updates after that. No announcement specifically of game shutting down. Could be next year could be 3 years no one knows and if they say they do they full of ***.

After November no more upates other than glitch/bug fixes balance adjustments.

The game is not shutting down any time soon. They have not announced it will be shutting down; in fact, they said it won't be.

They simply will stop with "major content" updates after November. There will still be patches with balance/bug fixes/other things, though (they were talking about some Windows version only fix ups too).

i guess it will end with neo-abysea gear or maybe they'll make it an entire neo-abysea zone? that would be cool.

Spoke to some JP friends, they believe SE is doing this to save alot of money, currently in Japan the big market is mobile gaming thats why SE wants to delve into this mobile app stuff. Just imagine, paying money for treasure coffers with a 1% chance at a relic. As far as I am told running a server isnt really costly and running some maints and fixes isnt either, if they can turn a profit with minimal work invested you may see this game rise up again. If player base doesn't budge and goes up, you may see them turn around and do some sort of huge visual update, and with one or two ad's you could very well see this game rise up from the ashes and they could possibly do another expansion. Who really knows.

I played from 2004 to 2013 ish (with occasional breaks). I both accomplished great things and wasted an incredible amount of time. I've moved on to XIV (more casually) but I'm sorry to hear XI is finally nearing this milestone. It's had a fantastic run.

Would Galka NPCs hold up political ads during campaign season?
