Has anyone tried playing FFXI on one of these? I'd like to know which model to get, how much memory and which chipset would be the best for random ffxi stuff, nothing major that would cause lag. I'd rather not buy the top of the line model if I don't need to. Thanks in advance.

I wouldn't get the M$ line, they're too expensive for the hardware.

But that's my opinion.

At the least you'd need full M$ Windows, not the RT ***.

I'd go for at least 64GB of storage, if not more, now whether it lets you install games/software to a SD card or not I'm not aware of, I would hope so, but whether that's viable or not I'm not aware, so I'd go for the 64GB base option to at least cover the OS and game+expansions.

I'd probably use a stand and a bluetooth or other controller though, not a keyboard person for XI, except for typing of course.

I run the game fine on 2GB vms, but whether that will be enough on a tablet, I'd have to give it a whirl.

I play in a surface 2.

It works very well. It doesnt have any problem with endgame also.

I don't have much experience with surfaces and gaming, but if it's portability you're after, and have a PC, I highly recommend the Nvidia shield. It's not standalone, the game runs on your PC, and it requires a capable Nvidia family graphics card, but it's a decent option if you want to be mobile and already have a gaming PC.

Talking about gameboy, surface running ffxi do consume lots of energy (and surface in general). It wouldnt run too much time in travels, maybe 6-7 hours. Dont know if surface 3 is more efficient.

Wow that's awesome...didn't think it could support ffxi...Which model/setup do you have?

I think with surface you can just choose is storage, the rest is pre determined.

But surface 2 is a quite potent device, it was expected for it to run fine.

Honestly, it's overkill, the two is what $800? the 3 is over 1k?

You can get an Asus Transformer for much less and it should suffice.

It's not as big, and yeah it has less ram, but if your goal is XI it should do the job. If I only had 1 XI account I'd probably consider getting it.
