Its not dead, Skjalf does events all day and night on Odin. Its active and fun : )
So far today Skjalf has done the following with mostly /yell parties + a couple of friends / LS people:
Puppet in Peril (Difficult) x2
Shiva Prime (Difficult) x1 or was it twice?
AAMR (Difficult) x1
Aello x12
Did Synergy stuff with friend. :)
Qilin x12
and much more to come before sleep ^^

I think you just need an active LS to ignore the crappy server count. Cerberus barely pushes 400 and I'm sure 1/4 is afk in jeuno. But we try and always keep something going on in my LS, if it's delve, ADL, or getting people little stuff they need :)
It's not what it used to be for sure, but it's still fun if you have the right people... which is always how FFXI has been.

No idea what I've been playing for the past few months with good friends if the game is dead. Has it been WoW this whole time and I just never realized it? Oh God...
The game is not what it once was, but it is by no means dead. Find a good LS, do stuff with them, enjoy yourself. People need to spend more time in the game and less time making the same damn thread over and over.

This site is in perpetual groundhog day mode. How many times are you people going to make this thread and respond to it?

True, some servers need some help, but others still have reasonable population counts. Bismarck and Shiva seem to hold around 1,000 players during NA time. (I'm not sure if it's different during opposing time frames)
Not 2005 numbers, but reasonable.
If there's anything dead about FFXI, it's finding gear below lv 80. To say nothing about below lv 50. (specifically the good equipment and not just random junk with a defense number attached)

It might also help to raise player counts by actually allowing people to pay for the game - if you read the ongoing issues on the ffxi forum there is a huge issue with people not having a method of payment to get on the game.

So FFXI isnt just alive, it also wants to procreate.

The game is not dead, you just have to adapt to less people being on it lol and get a good ls or do what i do and take ur time and enjoy the game.....I started over couple times and i'm on me 3rd time as unlike everyone else i dont burn me job i actully like leveling them and learning the job as i cap me stats... Im even working this time on having all me crafts capped so if i need something made i can make mostly what i need... The game is only dead if ur too lazy to get off your bum and do something or find people that are doing something lol, so stop moaning and do something, or move server or go play something else lol
