ACA reaches sign up goal of 7.1 Million new private insurance subscriptions via the exchange.

USA Today Article

Washington Post Article

LA Times Article

So long story short, ACA hit its goal and Obama rubbed it in all the nay sayers faces. Rightfully so since failing to repeal it 41 times and forcing a government shutdown is beyond absurd and a waste of my taxpayer money.

Nb4 Ultra Right Wing Rage from some of our particular posters due claiming troll bait thread.

What its like being proven wrong once again? As well as not having a clue as to how health care insurance works? #UKnowhoUr.

Man I'm really shocked at those numbers. It's almost like he passed a law penalizing people for not signing up.

More like war on 12 fronts. You might want to open a newspaper or go to a news website once in a while.

Percent of what though? I get my insurance through work, so I don't have to sign up. What is the percentage based on uninsured or others who "Need" to sign up?

7.1 million out of 300 Million is a small percentage.

Edit: Its 2.13% of the total US population. The original comment was a response to the comment about the number being so high due to a penalty for not signing up for health insurance.

The comment was sarcastic at the idea of hitting a goal you penalize people for not helping you get too. Not the actual numbers. Also I never said they we're high, just I was shocked for alittle sarcasm at the irony of the situation. :)

I guess my attempted point is that that comparison doesn't really hold any value. The total population doesn't need to sign up so saying "Only 2.13% of the US signed up!" sounds like something a biased headline would run.

Does it? Have you actually read the law on the penalty? Its 96$ or 2% of ones annual income which ever is greater for the first year and increases every year after; that's for a single independent. The kicker comes when you have a family and the penalty is applied per person not covered in the house hold. So the comment about it being a small percentage of the total population isn't really misleading.

With respect to the law forcing everyone to get some type of coverage, its a private healthcare insurance providers wet dream come true. Since it basically forces the 49 Million that are uninsured to pony up to the service. 49 Million so that makes it 14% of the total uninsured and 2.1% of the US population (7.1M that susbscribed).

Wait...so if I'm on my parents insurance still. I have to pay 2% of my annual income to this?

7.1 million people signed up or actually payed? Up until this point the whitehouse has been unable to give accurate numbers, but today they were able to get it down to the decimal...

Also, what percentage of that 7.1 million are getting insurance for the first time, and how many are just replacing private insurance policies that were cancelled as a result of the ACA?

The only number they're giving, conveniently, is just over the goal they set for themselves.

This is hilarious. I bet when all is said and done there will be around 1 million people who didn't already have insurance who got it through this exchange who didn't get signed up for medicaid. This is what, out of what 40-50 million people who the initial problem was presented to solve? Not to mention the devastation and stifling of the best healthcare system in the world.

What a colossal failure!

Numbers I've heard were 1/3 (might have been 2/3, the denominator was 3, and that's all I recall) of people were expected not to pay that signed up.

Well the thing is its not like Canadian Healthcare at all. It's still very much a capitalistic enterprise. Doctors will still need to call insurance providers for the money due, barring Medicaid and Medicare recipients. Whereas in Canada doctors and hospitals bill the Government directly. Both are slightly better than the UK where health workers are government employees.

Dear Obama:

Obamacare helped me get insurance coverage without having to pay outrageous rates because of a pre-existing health condition.

Thanks, Obama

P.S.
You also raised my parents monthly rates from 200 to 300 a month and their office co-pay to 30/visit. So now my parents can't afford to take my sister to see her allergist for her severe allergies...

Did they try looking into one of the new Healthcare exchange options? Something tells me Insurance companies bank on the inherent laziness we Americans suffer from in the capacity of raising rates and betting you wont shop around.

Shop around y'all, shop around.
