I thought they were supposed to be ranged attack only.
Kindof like how WHM is supposed to melee with dual wield clubs as WHM/DNC (you know, need that TP for those super cures yo!)

Lonnnng time ago when I leveled NIN for SJ, I was soooo excited to play as Shuriken Ninja because I watched too much Naruto.
I even wanted to merit Sange and make /p macro for Naruto style epic Shuriken quote every time I throw a shuriken.

I spent a bit looking for an ss of naruto utsusemi macros and shockingly couldn't find one. I found some great ones, but no ss's of naruto rips.
