There were actually some very successful LSes that operated on that principle. Basically, one person buys, the rest split the gil. It's essentially no different than DKP, only you can use gil for a lot more, and you still have gil when the LS splits up.

there are many linkshells on sylph that are just social. in fact some of them shout everyday.
