Please verify a few things if this does not work for you:
1) Do a file check if you still crash.
2) Don't run any third party programs or tools
3) Make sure you successfully and properly copied the files across

Ok anyone having this problem I think I found a fix im on 360 and crashed like everyone else my wife plays on 360 and hers works just fine so I did all the file checks and repairs and it still crashed so I logged in with her xbox got the cutscenes done and then logged back into my xbox and it let my main character get on.

Drazzan, your file didn't work for me =( I think my issue is a little different though. I'm able to log in (with login music and all that jazz) but when i tried zoning into the new area, im stuck in a black screen. I can't open any menus or use any actions.
A Cutscene should start, you're not getting the crash that was described here. If you're having trouble getting the cutscene to start, may I suggest another PC of a friend?

Yea i'm not getting any cutscene. I don't have any RL friends who play nor another computer with this game installed =/

Well I thought it was going to work I zoned to the other side of adoulin and back and was on the way to get the flower KI and it crashed
I guess if anything for us 360 users and you pc users maybe we will have to reinstall FFXI. But that takes to long so ima keep trying to find a fix.

Hmm no sound for adoulin areas atm, still no opening music. Maybe I put sound9 folder in wrong area?

I think it maybe something to do with the zone outside the city.

I had this same exact problem.
I don't know if it matters but my client was installed originally via Steam for Abyssea.
The files he linked fixed my install.

Sound 9 just goes in the base Final Fantasy XI alongside all the other ROM folders

Reinstalling everything going to be upset when I wake up in the morning and SE has some small update to fix all this.

I fixed mine finally i Uninstalled it amazons's soa and downloaded bluegartr and it is now working! I dont know if it will help everyone but you can try. You will have to update again

For those on 360 I couldn't find a fix except to reinstall FFXI and now everything runs fine.
