Steam Broke FFXI (again)

So I accidentally launched FFXI through the usual method of Steam instead of just going polboot directly and it "updated" it.

Now my PlayOnline Viewer is broken (from says 2001-2007 instead of 2001-2011), and I think it may have reverted my FFXI files back to before I updated it to most recent files.

I've made a backup of the FFXI folder separately along with a complete backup of ffxi

Should I just reinstall the game through Steam or download a new POL Viewer and write that over the POL viewer in Steam?

EDIT: I downloaded new POL viewer let that update

Looks like Steam reverted the game to pre-abyssea content

Think this has just happened to me /sigh. Got an old POL viewer which predates tokens... Kinda weird as I bought the Abyssea edition.

I was an avid disliker of anything Steam related when they first appeared. Couldn't stand that I paid for games from the PC game shop that were patently not online games, and yet it made me setup a Steam account to use them.

Considered outright going back to the shop with the games and asking for refund for misselling them to me as offline games. I got over it. And enjoyed the games for what they were.

Steam is vastly improved these days. And I absolutely love the convenience of it. And buy and play loads of stuff on Steam.

All that being said, I wouldn't go within 1 million miles of running FFXI through Steam lol..

Torrent a normal version of the game never have to deal with steam again?
