I believe the point of this picture was to showcase what was new with the level 80 cap and the introduction of abyssea. Looking back on it years later it's easy to point out how this gear is obsolete. It's a dated picture and it will never change, but when it first came out if you were to look at that, I would make a bet you would have wanted all that perle and teal gear along with everyone else.
