Do anyone have a idea how I can get it run for windows 8? Return it and buy Win7. The difference between win8 and win7 is very small when it comes to gaming.

One of the main reasons why i hate all the new windows OS because microsoft never understands the idea that people use old programs/games. They just continue to make their new OSs not work with older content. I am sure hoping it does since if we want to play on a tablet windows 8 is our best hope
I would advise waiting like another year before win8 becomes the new prime. If it ever even does. So many games and applications that are incompatible with it :/ Such a good OS though other then that IMO. I would so dive headfirst into it if it wasn't for that.
I have Windows 8, FFXI, Windower, FFXIV all run fine. Did you do the windows8 upgrade or clean install? You may have reinstall the game if you did the upgrade.
I installed FFXI via steam and FFXIV from the retail ISO. I cleaned my hard disk,re-installed XP and then upgrade to 8; so I had to install all games/programs, but maybe steam version works,if I just could remember my steam account <.<
Are you getting an error message?
Mines working all peachy, just make sure you don't have it set to auto run as admin, and you right click and run as admin that way.
I got messages like:
Error code:20008003 POL viewer cannot run under current operating system I run Win 7 and 8, both x64. Works fine on both.
Can't blame Microsoft for other companies faults or inability to work with OS developers always. That's always the first thing people do every single time a new OS comes out. You wouldn't buy a car and expect it to work off the shelf with any engine on the market, past and present, without some sort of modifications. Why should a operating system be any different? I didn't have to do that for it to work though, but it might do the trick. I clicked and chose xp-version and ran as admin :(
try to install fxxi on a virtuel hard disk and see how it goes Gotta love how 10yr old games tend to not get any support...
yeah but not only game lol have issue with RE operation raccoon city too
That's why don't buy the latest OS right away lol... There will always be issues for running games on the PC. Just like what happened to Windows 7 XD!
Mine works perfectly fine. Just got my new notebook (Asus G75VW) and run perfectly fine.
I used the Ultimate Edition of FFXI to install and then just download the patch files from BG and then did the final updates using the regular POL/FFXI. If you're using a pre-Windows 7 install disc, chances are that's where your problem lies. You'll need to download the Windows 7 specific version of POL from SE/POL and then use the DVD/CD to install the rest. Windows 8 x64. You make it sound like you went from XP to windows 8. If that's true you can't install playonline from the FFXI disc. Vista/7/8 all require the new playonline version.
http://www.playonline.com/ff11us/download/media/vista01.html go there and download/install playonline, then install ffxi/expansions from disc, and then run as admin. Should work for you. Partition your hd and run 7 and 8?

Install proper version of XI. update. Install windower. Now, do not set any compatability settings for it. Instead, everytime you want to run windower, I have to manually right click the windower icon and hit run as admin. If I select it to always run as admin it breaks. Hopefully this helps someone. I got 89 games on my current Win7 OS and a ton of other applications that help with unique features that let you play oriental games. Ect. Not talking about just Final Fantasy online game stuff. I know that stuff works. My brother currently uses Win8 but only plays FFxi,xiv and spiderman. lol

So far haven't run into any issues using Collection-2009 disks and the Vista/7 POL from Squenix.
Just installed FFXI + Windower onto my copy of Windows 8. Works like a charm. Just need to right-click run as Admin (without check marking) as stated above.
I installed with a DAEMON mounted FFXI collection .ISO, then copy pasted my Windows 7 FFXI over the freshly installed files. You only need to install the files from .ISO/CD to get the registry for your Windows 8-- you can then copy paste the "FINAL FANTASY XI" folder files over them (from another installation) for a speedier installation. A few problems with Windows 8 FFXI + Windower 1) Check marking "Compatibility Mode" or "Run as Administrator" will crash Windower-POL as it transitions to FFXI. Right-clicking and selecting "Run as Administrator" does not crash Windower. 2) UAE (User Account Control) will crash Windower at it's default setting (due to the light dimming upon opening "unpublished" programs). Moving the UAE setting down a selection will fix this problem while allowing you to keep the nag screen (or turning UAE off completely). 3) Any program or app that forces a screen resolution change (such as video game emulators with full screen mode) will still crash Windower. Use precaution when using those programs in tandem. A few other programs will not work correctly until you run them as Administrator as well. Such as Mappy or XI-Util. |
