Hello everyone.

Thanks for all of the "likes" and messages in response to the post I made the other day!

As I wrote in the Message from the Producer, there is a ton to catch up on from the past two years and I've been doing my best each day to do just that. However, even if I do my best I don’t think this gap is something that I can completely fill by myself, so I would really appreciate everyone's help.

Now then, I'd like you all to tell me what you would like me to focus on. Anything is fine.

However, I would like you to keep in mind and agree to the following:

  • Do not attack or flame others, including myself.

  • Be specific and concrete. We won't be able to accomplish anything if posts are unclear or full of attacks.

  • Instead of saying what you "don’t want," tell me what you "want."

  • Tell me what it is that YOU prefer. Not what your friends or linkshell members say, I want to hear from you specifically.

Please make your posts as a reply to this thread (I will also be taking into consideration the amount of "likes" each post receives). As a general rule, feedback should be posted in the appropriate thread, so once we collected enough post in this thread and after an appropriate amount of time, we'll close the thread. Also please limit replies to your opinions only and if you would like to discuss specific points, please utilize appropriate threads for each topic.

I will be doing my best to look over each and every post made. (Though, I am sure it will take some time…) Your opinions will definitely play a part in helping me fill in the gap from these past two years as well as for thinking about the future of FINAL FANTASY XI.

In addition to the work for currently scheduled version updates, there is also a lot of work to be done for the new expansion, "Seeker of Adoulin," so I don’t think there will be very many things we can do immediately and I’d like to apologize for that.

Also, I don’t believe it will be possible to have every single thing come to fruition, due to the fact that there may be content that is contradictory or things that no matter how hard we try it is just not feasible.

I will first be making sure that I accurately understand what you would like and then will determine if it is possible or not, and assign a priority level to it. I will be sharing this with you all and making it so together we can see the picture of how FINAL FANTASY XI will change going forward. I feel this is something the community needs and though it might not be quite so easy, it is a method I would like to adopt.

Thank you very much!

As always with topics like these, feel free to discuss the topic here, but if you want your voice heard you will need to post in the topic on the official forums.

Thank you so much for the large amount of comments! We will now be closing the thread.

There are a huge amount of suggestions from Japan, North America, and Europe, but I will be looking over each and every post that followed the instructions, and will be taking it all into consideration as I think about the future of FINAL FANTASY XI and the mutual feelings of the community.

I also have one more request for you all. I hope that you all could read over all of the posts in this thread (of course, reading over what you can is fine, too).

After playing with your friends for so long, you often start to think and play the same way as the them, including your linkshell members, and players that you spend a lot of time with and grow close to.

In this thread there are posts from these people as well as people who think in a completely different way. I’d like you to try and understand what adventurers other than yourself are thinking and looking for.

In order to continue to protect the FINAL FANTASY XI that we all love, we need everyone's cooperation or we'll be unable to accomplish anything.

I'd like to place more importance on the community and work side-by-side with you all.
From here on out I would appreciate it if you could consider the fact that there are people in the community who think in a variety of different ways and to sometimes write your feedback and opinions from an open-minded standpoint.

Thank you all very much!

I was skimming through suggestions and this one caught my eye:

Phoenix.Bubblemonkey (SpankWustler) said:
Second, please keep in mind that the players have grown and learned about Final Fantasy XI over the years. Many of us are now graduate students, writers, bear-wrestlers, teachers, scientists, or 30-year-old virgins who have gained mysterious magical powers. Along the way to finding a cure for dwarfism or learning how to perform a twirling reverse-suplex on a polar bear, many of us took a first-year college statistics course.

So, we know how the numbers that make basic functions (such as those behind spells and weapon-skills) work do their thing. We know that the median and the mode may be very different things and that not all samples are representative.

As a result, we're much happier with explanations that go into the mathematical or ideological innards of things than "this does this because we made it do this and it does this on purpose because we made it do this and that is that". I mean, what is the best possible response to that kind of answer? Relief that FFXI isn't developed by throwing laptops at stray cats and letting the chips fall where they may?

That sounds harsh, harsher than I want to come off, but I can't think of any gentle way to express the feeling that "this is intentional" gives off to many players when given in response to a request for change. It is a relatively harsh feeling, as far as first-world middle-class extremely dorky video-game-stuff goes.

I might not agree with the reasoning provided if the Development Bros were to say "We want people to spend X hours moving merits around a week, so we'll never uncap merits completely," or "We want a Blue Mage to change his or her spells around mid-fight during Voidwatch so his or her swords will see more use," but I would respect those detailed answers and that would provide something for the community to discuss.

I realize this kind of explanation requires more time and effort, and possibly even someone from the corresponding department to write it out originally, but I feel it would help move discussion in a much more constructive direction on both sides.

There are other suggestions like:

Quetzalcoatl.Mdkuser (Monchat) said:
I want 16 macro lines, so that I can swap all my gear in one click,

and some progression system for nyzul isle instead of randommneess "throw a dice 10 times in a row and get 9 floor jumps".

I'm actually a graduate student on my way to curing dwarfism in bears, a goal I decided to work towards after becoming a semi-professional dwarf polar bear wrestler.

I is understanding post of his easy he is simple asking his much want of token items with purchases of much using the Crysta gils and not the monies so with easier to password protected by token.

Hopefully that clearly explains what he was trying to say.

yes it did seeing as some people have left over crysta laying around and think it would be nice to be able to not just use it for a free month of online more or less but to buy the token so people do not need to put in card info.

You can use ton when it's not specific measurements ("I have a ton of bats in my attic" etc) but when you mean the metric weight it should be "tonne". But really, it doesn't matter unless you're ordering materials or something.

So basically what I'm getting from this is he is asking people to help him figure out all the screw ups that need to be fixed that the other guy had added to the game over the past 2 years.

Some I can think of to add would be faster voidwatch stone recharge. Better drop rates on gear and upgrade items from voidwatch
and ability to put gear you already have into a treasure pool for others to lot on.

Allow skill ups in campaign where skill level caps are based on the zone and add auto RR to it and besiege.Campaign warps to strong holds and warp for besiege when the mobs are advancing with better notification system.

Also ability to increase moghouse size, not storage but the actual moghouse itself.Make it like a moblin maze map and the room upgrade peices rewards form moblin maze and balista.

Re work some older synergy recipes that are near impossible without script programs. Revitalize moblin maze , balista and brenner adding a rewards to ballista( I miss the roaming full scale Balista groups that use happen years ago they led to many epic large scale matches).

Also a easy to get piece of gear that raises the wearers enemity cap above others in the party so they can actually tank and hold hate.

Improved fishing skill up rates.

i know people still want 6 man partys i do them with people and i cap to the lowest guy in the party say for example a level 58 the rest of the party will drop to us then we can fight in a 6 man party zone.

well this is the way i keep 6 man partys alive more people then u think still want 6 man partys.Speaking of this i need to get a 80 cap 6 man party going soon so i can skill up my job. and level my some things that my class needs or my class will be come gimped.

also

i was thinking of asking this guy to look in to the fact of making magic skill ups for some classes happen more often.

why do u say that i found 6 man partys more fun then the 18 partys we have now. Also when u had 6 man partys for a good part of it u needed to know how to play your class right to keep on your feet and not die.

A six man party system in the grand scheme of things was nice. It promoted teamwork and cooperation to a degree, but unfortunately the nature of the game nearly made it a mandatory function to even remotely progress your job level. What I would like to see is similar to signet's EXP bonus for small parties, have an even greater exp bonus for those that work in full parties and battle particularly difficult monsters within various camps. Make it a matter of efficiency and choice rather than a matter of "do this or solo" like it was for so many years.

But with Abyssea already giving out exp by the truckload for minimal effort and GoV covering the gaps, the days of six man parties for merits or otherwise have long since faded away and become nothing more than a mere memory of former glory.

But frankly I'm happy with the option to efficiently solo or lowman rather than taking the painstaking effort and time to organize something that could very well disband on a dime.

I agree. It's relieving to know that he is actually SPECIFICALLY asking for input from the clientele and seems to actually give half a damn.

I also like his no-nonsense attitude in this post.
It feels like he's gonna get ***done.

EDIT: I sure would hope he knows a HELP I AM TRAPPED IN 2006 PLEASE SEND A TIME MACHINE idea when he sees one, though. And I think that enough of us will point out the stupid ideas in the thread that he will be able to find out what is best for the community.
