Well, another POS company falls in line.

I love the concept of releasing faster and faster phones, yet scaling back the amount of data you can use.

Time to go to Sprint while the unlimited lasts, and once that is cut off, it will be time to leave this country behind.

it's only for those who wish to upgrade to 4g, which isn't available in many areas yet...

but the article still has a point, monopolies screw over customers.

I mean come on, does this REALLY shock you?

I'm sure you can blame people that tether their computers to their phones to use torrents and such and use it as their main source of internet.

...which is why I'm sure you're upset, lol

Verizon being a ***?

After six months of trying to get them to fix my DSL with absolutely zero progress this does not surprise me in the slightest. Verizon is pretty awful.

I thought they already did that... funny part was when i upgraded the sales person told me that they are pushing the data plans but you wont lose you unlimited data is you ask bout it.

Cause i know when i upgraded, if i did it online or on the phone i had to take limited data plan but when i did it at hte store i kept my unlimited.

why would you blame people for using the feature the phone comes with?

the companies aren't investing enough in the equipment to keep up with demand because they're worried about their ridiculous profit margin.

It pains me to see that mobile service providers are a matter of picking the lesser of 4-5 evils. All of which become more so, each passing day.

PS: Don't ever go with T-mobile, ever.

It's hard to believe that US Cell Phone companies still charge for incoming calls. But they do, so who's surprised? Not me.

For all the people that love to tell us all about how great unbridled capitalism is, this is what it gets you.

Higher Prices, worse service, fewer choices.

And no, I do not tether my phone.

I use it to stream radio at work, which under a tier plan would cause me to pay 100's per month.

I recently upgraded (in store) approx two months ago and was able to keep my unlimited data plans on both phones (this was an option on the website as well, it was just easier for me to upgrade in the store).

As that is contractual, I'm assuming I have this for as long as my contract is in effect.

They'd best unscrew themselves, however, if they expect me to sign another contract after this one, though.

I rarely crack the initial tier's worth of data. But I do at times. And that isn't the point. I am not going to drop down and pay the same amount for less.

Not always higher prices... There are a few industries (like oil companies) that are heavily subsidized bring costs down... Look at Europe where gas costs something like $8 a gallon or something... Not to say unbrideled capitalism is a great thing or anything...

I think some have free incoming calls... and most have free mobile to mobile if you have the same service provider too.

Text messaging alone rakes in absolute Scrooge McDuck-swimming-in-it levels of money for these companies. The character limit on text messages is because the data is piggybacked onto a type of transmission they have to send anyway and is limited to that size. Which means they pay absolutely nothing extra to send your text messages.

Therefore, every last penny they charge for texting is pure profit.

But they couldn’t ever even briefly consider passing that savings onto the consumer.

America, f*** yeah.

I wish I knew that information as a kid when your mom would call you 9032583209582309582 times while you were away from your phone, or leaving it to charge in another room.

Texting to me never seems like a big deal... for as long as I've had it I just get the unlimited plan and it always seemed fair enough...

If you think it's just American companies that try to squeeze every penny you're sorely mistaken lol...

The point here isn't to slam on the American system. That was just a flippant comment to end the statement. Don't grasp onto that as my gripe here, please. I mostly like my country.

The point is that they're taking money for something that costs them literally nothing extra in time or service (or actual cash investment). It's a pretty boss proposition for them.

It was kind of a joke, about how your mom is constantly trying to get a hold of you by any means necessary and having unbridled tenacity in doing so.

But yeah, it's kind of ridiculous how many kids have phones these days. I didn't get mine til I started high school, and it was only because my mom was the epitome of what I just mentioned lol.

I hope you are ok with your 4G cutting out whenever you cross the street, and your 3G being slower than old school web-phones from 2005. Regardless their 4G is pretty nice I guess. I have to deal with it as I'm a former Verizon customer.

(well if you did tether your "smartphone" with at&t or verizon, both require you to "upgrade" to a tethering plan for smartphones, well I found a loophole in this, I "tether" with a non-smart phone, a samsung evergreen. At&t keeps saying they're switching it to tethering for smart phones, and keep sending me notices, they haven't changed anything and I'll sue their *** when they do, there's nothing in my contract that allows them to do so. (I checked).

Grandfathered in on unlimited too.

(truth be told if I could get better internet I would but it's either that or dialup...)
