New To Beastmaster

Hey Guys,
I just picked up BST because I don't have any "pet" job leveled (unless you count DRG). I'll be honest. I chose BST over SMN and PUP because my main job is WAR and I want to recycle as much of my gear as possible. If you could be kind enough to give me an idea of what Attributes I should focus on increasing I would appreciate it. Thanks in advance. Also, please explain why those particular gear sets would benefit me instead of me just wearing DD gear.

Half the bst i see dont even wear a full armor set. Just some axes and w/e and dipper yuly, dont even use falcor. BST requires no skill at videogames and the people who main it can't beat Super Mario 1

what job does take skill these days?

The great thing about BST is it is highly customizable to suit YOUR tastes. I'm personally a solo only BST. Keep in mind that your gear isn't soley to benefit you, there should be some focus on your pet since he/she/it is a major aspect of your job. That being said here are some of the sets I personally use:

Reward:


The idea is to reach 50% cap (which can be done with Monster feet +2 zoraal ja's axe and Ogre Gloves) then use recast down gear (khimera bonnet/monster legs +2) and fill the rest with MND.

General TP:


The axes change depending on what I'm doing situationally. If you want pure DD go with STR Astolfo/DA +11 axe or pet tank use -11% Pet PDT (which you need x2 anyway) or mix and match pet MDB or EVA.

PET doing all the work



Anwig is pet 5% haste -10% PDT Mirke is Pet attk/DA and adaman sollerets have -6 Call Beast delay pet haste +3% subtle blow +5. Beast Bazubands would be nice in the hand slot if you can manage to find Dragonscale Bugul Ja.

Ruinator


Debating if STR from pyro beats chance for DA/TA proc from epona's.

I have LOTS of other situation sets but these are just basic.

Merits I have 5/5 Ruinator, Reward recast 5/5 Call Beast 5/5, Feral Howl 1/5 (just to have it to chance proc in dynamis) Beast Affinity 2/5 (with monster gloves this should be enough to cap all new jugs save for nazuna at 97-99) Beast Healer i have 4 in but swapping merits around lately to focus more on killer instinct which will probably end up 3/5 at least.

on a serious note depends on what level of commitment you wantto put into the job

Get a pet pdt set, pet eva axes are pretty usless. Cap reward at 50% then load up on mnd. Most of bst af3+3 is great for meeling, just get some form of haste hands, aug E hands are nice. I'll post my sets when i get time.

I take it you only know "leechmasters" and their 5/5 peral 1/2 finished -PDT axes that only do dynamis and fart around with a few of no consequense NM's inside abyssea.

i made 10 axes for bst mdb, eva, pet att, pdt all x2 but im also the blm that walks around with 5 stacks of remedies echos an elixirs i tend to overkill prep work

i will agree bst takes nowhere near what it did pre 76 when you soloed to 63 then 62 then 63 again

So true, you literally lose skill by playing BST. It makes you a worse player.

I miss BST back in the day, it was one of the hardest jobs to play.

There is no job/class in any video game I've ever played that I've hated as much as BST. Put pet on mob - > alt tab as your pet solos it, herpa derp. Maybe randomly tab back in to use a Dawn Mulsum and heal your pet for 046060460460 hp, and if it somehow does die while you're alt tabbed, np, just resummon another one.

I need to level another mule and only have BST on it so my cat can farm dynamis for me on it.

how is bst different from any other melee job in that regard

Your BST is 10 according to your page....Thats like me bashing PLD when I've never even really played it. And if your pet is soloing exp mobs that don't do deadly AoE while you run away

played the right way its more macro and gear intensive than most melees

It makes you worse at the game because you can solo things that would normally require a healer + DD(dual box or not), by putting your pet on the mob, and doing the alt tab thing I talked about @_@
While other players have to change to MDB gear durning -ga's, am2's, t5's, PDT for TP moves, evasion gear, cure, haste, WS, random JA's, you're literally alt tabbed watching your pet solo things, only tabbing in to randomly heal your pet for 406046064, or resummon if you forgot to tab back in for too long.

+1 alt tabbing skill, -1 ffxi skill.

and thats all there is to bst?
