Blu sjs and trait sets
By Gimp 2012-01-11 19:35:34
Since we can get tier 3 we mostly don't need /nin anymore was wondering what people were using as their subs for normal dd situations
been using /war so far which is nice because of begressor and the da trait other gear and khanda puts it at 23% DA and making the TA job trait puts me at 8%
I don't have /sam finished and I have to figure out how to calculate but has anyone messed with it yet?
And I'm remembering offhand that TA users don't benefit from double attack as much as people without it (some clarification needed)
What were you guys using for traits on blue? I currently use
Store Tp(cheap combo can't say it makes or breaks an x build yet)
Conserve Mp (mainly to offset Occultation/DD spell spam)
Auto Refresh
Triple Attack
Edit: DW III
Any input? Sorry if its a little vague what I'm asking

I'm sure people are still going /nin or /dnc because setting all 6 spells for Dual Wield kills a lot of your points.
I personally go /sch and enjoy it, but I couldn't possibly tell you why. My BLU doesn't do anything hardcore.

Dual Wield is a neccessity, it only takes 2 spells for Dual Wield 1. Dual Wield 2 isn't hard to do either just set Quad, Wail, Delta and Barbed.

I still like my /nin because occ spam really hurts mp outside of abyssea but I am opening up to /war a bit more now but I hate having to set my spells each time I go a different sub.

Since I'm /NIN for 90% of the things I do right now, I set: Double Attack, Evasion Bonus, Auto Refresh, Store TP, and Fast Cast.

I pretty much only use /rdm or /war for blu these days.
I set:
Dual Wield II
Store TP
Zanshin
Skillchain Bonus
Double Attack(/rdm) or Conserve MP(/war)

Solo
BLU/NIN
Delta Thrust
Heavy Strike
Sudden Lunge
Amorphic Spikes
Barbed Crescent
Animating Wail
Battery Charge
Cocoon
Occultation
Magic Fruit
Winds of Promyvion
Auroral Drape
Filamented Hold
Actinic Burst
Fantod
Empty Thrash
Charged Whisker
Everyone's Grudge
Screwdriver
Traits:
Store TP
Double Attack
Auto Refresh
Evasion Bonus
Treasure Hunter
Provides all necessary traits for efficient kill speed and defense, all necessary buffs, four debuffs, a heal, and an abundant number of physical spells. No paralyze spell is not a big loss, and the switch to a more effective slow spell is more efficient. Exchanging Fast Cast for Evasion Bonus is an acceptable tradeoff as well. Removing Double Attack or Store TP in exchange for MP Drainkiss or Magic Hammer is also an option if you expect MP problems.
Defensive DD
BLU/NIN
Benthic Typhoon
Delta Thrust
Heavy Strike
Sudden Lunge
Quadrastrike
Amorphic Spikes
Animating Wail
Battery Charge
Cocoon
Occultation
Magic Fruit
Winds of Promyvion
Uppercut
Battle Dance
Empty Thrash
Fantod
Actinic Burst
Traits:
Store TP
Double Attack
Auto Refresh
Attack Bonus
Skillchain Bonus
Allows for a somewhat defensive playstyle while still retaining the ability to DD. Leaves 5 open set points for an Abyssea proc spell or any optional utility spell you may wish to set.
All-out DD
BLU/WAR
Quad. Continuum
Delta Thrust
Heavy Strike
Sudden Lunge
Amorphic Spikes
Barbed Crescent
Animating Wail
Battery Charge
Cocoon
Occultation
Magic Fruit
Winds of Promyvion
Empty Thrash
Acrid Stream
Demoralizing Roar
Fantod
Blazing Bound
Mortal Ray
Actinic Burst
Traits:
Store TP
Triple Attack
Auto Refresh
Dual Wield III
Provides the platform for BLU's most capable overall damage dealing setup. Contains all of the relevant job traits to go along with /WAR's already robust set of traits and abilities. Zanshin and Accuracy Bonus are absent as Zanshin does not work while dual wielding, and accuracy is almost never enough of an issue to be worth set points. This build also provides limited defensive value and an acceptable number of powerful physical spells.
Voidwatch Tank
BLU/PLD
Benthic Typhoon
Delta Thrust
Heavy Strike
Sudden Lunge
Quadrastrike
Amorphic Spikes
Animating Wail
Battery Charge
Cocoon
Occultation
Orcish Counterstance
Magic Barrier
Magic Fruit
Actinic Burst
Magnetite Cloud
Ice Break
Asuran Claws
Fantod
Empty Thrash
Traits:
Store TP
Double Attack
Skillchain Bonus
Magic Defense Bonus
Counter
Provides maximum defensive ability while retaining some offensive ability. Most of your enmity will be generated through your sword rather than spells, however you have Flash, Actinic Burst, and Fantod to rely on if you cannot use your sword or your sword is insufficient for whatever reason. Since most Voidwatch NMs do not favor blink tanking, your best bet really is /PLD using a shield. While you lose significant offensive ability, you gain defensive ability and, less importantly though still nice, access to Shield Bash. This role and build should only be used if you're experienced and have acceptable defensive gearsets.
Voidwatch Melee
BLU/WAR
Heavy Strike
Empty Thrash
Acrid Stream
Demoralizing Roar
Quad. Continuum
Delta Thrust
Barbed Crescent
Blazing Bound
Mortal Ray
Animating Wail
Sudden Lunge
Fantod
Traits:
Store TP
Triple Attack
Dual Wield III
Provides all necessary traits and leaves enough spell slots open to allow for somewhat flexible procs. This is your most effective build for 90% of all Voidwatch NMs.
Voidwatch Magic
BLU/RDM
Regurgitation
Dark Orb
Everyone's Grudge
Firespit
Thermal Pulse
Charged Whisker
Chaotic Eye
Zephyr Mantle
Choose one to three magic spells based on your target and its resistances, and this is all you need. The rest of your slots may be filled with proc spells and utility spells such as Magic Fruit.
By Gimp 2012-01-11 21:06:24
I noticed you didn't include Quad strike in any of those possibly due to the 5 point cost, I was hearing that it was the strongest spell to use. I haven't gotten it I've played with Amorphic which replaces goblin rush easily but I can't say I've tested it enough to say it outdoes quad with ca and/or efflux. Not sure if it's somewhat inaccurate damage varies a bit.
Edit: I see it, just on the defensive dd side though

All of these sets are made with Almace in mind, I should have pointed that out. Very seldom would I stop to cast a spell in between CDCs, and if I do it's to skillchain, proc, or cast heavy Strike/Delta Thrust for the MP efficiency. Quadrastrike is nice if you have Efflux/Chain Affinity available solely for it in Abyssea and on higher level and defense targets where the crits will matter more.
it is to be assumed that, if you're subbing WAR, your focus is on your swords as it offers relatively little to magic.

I've been using BLU mostly for voidwatch lately. I typically go /rdm in those instances for dia spam to pull clues. I'm normally not engaged with the mob unless it's terror'd, or I've got fan drink up, so the protection afforded by /nin isn't as needed. I usually take /nin for most everything else.

Thanks a ton for the info, It is very helpful.. I've been playing blu for a bit now, but I never had a set spell list of what was the greatest for each scenario.. but your guide helps mucho.
A few questions if you don't mind.. I recently just got Almace, and I've been trying to research the best Skillchain for it.. I have been doing CDC > Typhoon... but im not like the total dmg output. It seems like my Req. > QC was doing a ton more.
I'm using SS/GH/RR for atmas and my CDC dmg is fairly well i think(avg 3-4k) but typhoon usually does 1k-1500, and darkness only 1k-1200.. Thank you in advance :)
Again thanks for the guide of spells.. very helpful

Red proc team should be casting enough that you don't need to spam Dia and if there's any question about procs having the BRD spam songs costs a lot less than you going /RDM just for Dia (you did mention being engaged). /RDM should only be used if you're focusing on nukes.

For your atmas should be fine with using Apoc instead of gh hit rate gets high enough to warrant it rancor collar helps in that regard.
And aftermath even if we're not nins we get it pretty low enough pull off some sick delay

Just curious, what sort of gearset would you use with this setup? Just standard PDT/MDT sets?
